Game Update: The True Dragonborn
So the big news for today was the full unveiling of the newest Skyrim DLC, so eloquently titled “Dragonborn”. Now, as a fan of the series since Oblivion (no, I didn’t play any of the prior Elder Scrolls unfortunately) and a lover of the world of Skyrim I’m very intrigued by this for a few reasons:
1. New Lands:
This might be the announcement I’m most excited for. I’m really excited for this because it’s more of Tamriel. The world Bethesda has created is GORGEOUS. I never get tired of just wandering through the different climates and various holds finding random side quests and new books to read (Yes, I read the books in Skyrim). The new land that we’ll get to explore is called Solstheim, an island from a post-release expansion of Morrowind, so not exactly a “new” area, but if I haven’t seen it~. The look of Solstheim is incredible, from the video above it’s looking like it’s going to be a mix of a TON of different environments. The holds, villages, and dungeons aren’t in any way new to the residents of Skyrim, but for some reason looking at it in the video) they seem more vivid and colorful, and what’s not to love about that.
2. Compelling Story
Bethesda isn’t knew to the art of storytelling, some people would even say they’ve mastered it (not me but I will agree that they’re DAMN close). The plot line for the new DLC is looking a little something like this. The ruler of Solstheim a long time ago was a dragon priest of immense power, but instead of worshiping the dragons he defeated them and absorbed their power as the first Dragonborn. Now he threatens to return to the land and rule once more, and it is up to you to stop him. The thing I love most about this is that they’re finally addressing the “previous Dragonborn’s” issue. I love the way that Skyrim doesn’t just tell you that you’re the most important person in the world they make you FEEL like it, yet don’t make you feel overpowered. I don’t know about all of you, but when I heard that I was the Dragonborn playing the original story the first thing I thought was “So who was it before me?”. I never thought it’d be addressed, but I was wrong. Now, you being the Dragonborn, have to take down the ORIGINAL Dragonborn (that’s the FIRST). Pure gold.
3. Dragon-Wait for It-Riding
Let me just be clear that there are various other add ons from the looks of the video (new weapons, armor, mounts, enemies, etc) but none are as hold-the-fuck-onto-your-pants awesome as dragon mounts. It takes what was once just an annoying enemy and turns it into a badass looking vehicle. Look the fuck out Rorikstead.
