I don't think Tim daydreamed about being Robin as a kid prior to Jason showing up for the simple reason that that would mean that Dick Grayson had stopped being Robin and he couldn't imagine that happening. Instead, he daydreamed about being Robin's sidekick and spent way too much time brainstorming cool hero names when he should've paying attention in class.
