TIKKADA MASALA
Don’t you just love when a Bugsnak has a first and last name? I sure do. I think Tikkada is the best at it, because it could easily just be called Tikkada, but it has a full name anyway! I wish I had videos of the voice clips to link for the newer snax, because Tikkada has a really good cicada voice, perfectly buzzy and choppy. I would not think a human voice could sound like a cicada! But here we are!
Tikkada was one of the first Bigsnax showcased in the trailer, providing a sense of just how Big these Snax are! I think it is interesting it is depicted as a constant flier, with big, contrasting with the usual perception of cicadas as perched on a surface. As a result I didn’t actually recognize it as a cicada at first!
Once it DOES land, however, it assumes that classic cicada pose. What a little darling. It can look so majestic one moment and then small and frightened the next!
Its bug basis became clear once it said “Tikkada!” in the trailer, but. The subtitles call it Scootz! I love this so so so much. The real reason is that initially, an altered Scoopy voice was used as a placeholder, so I guess its name was detected as Scootz. I think this individual Tikkada’s name should be Scootz.
Unfortunately, Tikkada is not a relatable creature. Not because I am not a bug made of curry, but because it hates eggs! I think this is to make it easier to transport Giant Eggler Shells around the island, as Tikkada will carry them to its nest so you don’t have to push them around. But as you can see, it hates any and all eggs! Even Eggabell, who it never meets!
This egg-snatching makes me kind of think of Tikkada as a parasitoid, maybe hoping to inject its own egg into the Eggler shells so the baby can feed on them, but this is not how cicadas or Bugsnax work, so I think it really just hates eggs. It wants to keep them in its nest so it can look at them and remember how much it HATES them. It gives its life purpose.
