Hey OP what's the book on Northumbria I too need to meet Bishop Chad.
copied from the reblog i added:
the book is The King In the North by Max Adams, describing events in Great Britain before, during, and after the life of King Oswald. I found the subject matter absolutely fascinating because I know nothing about this period, and Adams is both really well-informed on a number of levels and also good about making it clear how much we donāt and canāt know about this area of Old English history. (That said, the writing style isnāt exactly what I would describe as ācompellingā and prioritizing the fragmentary nature of the evidence means that the narrative style meanders a bit.)
also adding, Bishop Chad is a minor late arrival character in the narrative and shows up around the last couple of chapters/post King Oswiu. he might feature more in Adams's other books, I don't know
Jewish culture is getting shin four times in a row. Dreidel, why.

You have reminded me of the Jedi Prince series and I have spent the whole day giggling. TWO THREE-EYED PALPATINES. TWO. AH-AH-AH-AH-AH.
yes I know one of them wasn't really a Palpatine but he (almost?) got murdered by a Leia realdoll so I think he should be adopted.
Anyway thank you.
he did get murdered by a Leia realdoll and this image should be in the Louvre
My GF got me a gator for Valentine's Day š
He smells like lavender and can be put in the microwave to put on sore muscles. :D

Acheron! I haven't blathered about Acheron in a while and I think it's relevant to your interests, lol.
Les Mis Groundhog Day AU, which is just. A lot of fun to come up with different Situations to put Javert through during this however-many-hours-it-actually-is, lol. (I think it should be like 36-48 based on actual history; the show timeline is like one night, I have no idea what the book timeline is?)
Anyway, here are some of the planned loops (in no particular order):
He murders Enjolras as soon as he gets to the barricade. Heās like āmaybe I am supposed to save as many of these idiot children as I can; also at least I know this day will be Very Short.ā He feels the impact of four bullets before he dies.
He finally snaps and just wordvomits his feelings at Valjean in a very shouty way before storming off.
He just Doesnāt Want To Deal, he stays in his apartment.
He goes to talk to Cosette instead of going to the barricade.
Valjeanās Concerns lead him into going into Dad Mode. Javertās brain short circuits a little. [this one is labeled as 'a loop for tigerkat24' in my notes lol]
And then one where he stays to fight; dies with Valjean holding his hand, and it goes something like this:
Valjean: Even if I could get clear, I donāt think I could get you to help in time. ::but he sits by him and takes his hand:: Javert: wtf Valjean: No man should have to die alone. Javert: Not even a man you hate? Valjean: I donāt hate you. There was a time, perhaps, but that wasā¦long ago. I was a different man then. Youāve only ever done your duty. How could I hate or blame you for that? [probably some more dialogue; possibly he makes the āitās fine, this is better than drowning; drowning is a terrible way to die, I donāt recommend it;ā though probably that gets saved for the final loop. And Valjean has Concerns but also. Like. Homeboy is dying I will not judge his morbid thoughts.] Javert: ā¦why are you here? Valjean: One of these boys is in love with my daughter, and she with him, I think. Javert: ::considers this for a moment:: ā¦these children are all mad fools. Are you sure you want that for your child? Valjean: I am sure I love her enough to give him a chance to prove himself.
And then some narration about āeverything seems so clear in this momentā and he starts to say Valjeanās nameāand then finds himself facing his reflection in the window again and FUCK.
[the next loop also has him staying home. he knows it won't free him but.]
...anyway, it's gonna be fun! For me, anyway.
Send me a book!
ok tell me about the wildest AU you've written (writing meme)
Sure, start me off with an easy one, lol XD
I'm going to go ahead and exclude crossovers (though if I was including them, probably the Jedi of Valdemar AU would be up there). I'm also going to exclude AU concepts that came up back in the day with a lot of freeform RP stuff. Because a) that's collaborative and not entirely mine; and b) that's different from stuff I intend to actually Write (even if sometimes it starts from a similar place). I'm also limiting this to stuff that got past the 'hey wouldn't it be wild if' stage; meaning at least some notes got jotted down for a planned writing project even if it never went anywhere in the end, but also didn't go so far as to 'you know, I'm just gonna file off the serial numbers and make this an original project'. Lastly, along those lines, I'm going to stick to fanfic projects, in part because while I do absolutely make AUs of my original stuff, most of them aren't all that wild soooo.
ALL THAT BEING SAID here are a few I think are fun/wild:
So, a thing some of y'all may not know about me is that I have a lot of...what I call fractal AUs? Where I make AUs of my own AUs. Like, I primarily write canon-divergent stuff, so then it's a matter of 'okay what if This Additional Factor went differently,' etc. It is in this spirit that I mention the fact that I had at least partially plotted out an End!Verse AU for Heaven on Their Minds back when I was in the SPN fandom.
I wrote a one-shot summary/very brief AU where Zuko is killed during Aang's stampede in Ba Sing Se, that one went. Pretty wild. And some of it was--it was written when a few things about Korra had been announced but the show hadn't actually aired, so.
Distaff should probably go up on this list, since I do generally consider it crack treated seriously. (And, speaking of fractal AUs....lol)
I should probably also mention the Rabbit Hole AU (Palpatine raised in the Jedi Temple)
And to bring this to a nice round number (and also bring in one of my other primary fandoms of the moment lol), the Selkie AU for BSG is probably weird enough to count. (I...don't know how much changes between this point and New Caprica, mostly because I haven't decided how well he tolerates being in space for that long, but depending on who ends up with his skin during the occupation, it could get. Very interesting.)
Ask me a question!
(honestly, you could ask me something not on the list, too, let's make this an Open Question Night XD)
