His eyes fluttered open, revealing a flaming crimson colour in his orbs which directed themselves towards the door a few inches from his bed. Slowly, the bright colour dissipated, going back to the faintest shade of blue as he listened to the gentle tap of bare feet against the wooden floor. He couldn't help the smile that appeared on the corner of his lips as the sweet scent of vanilla hit his highly sensitive nose, indicating that she is merely a few steps to reach his room.
The doorknob moved slightly downwards accompanied by a small grunt that made him chuckle before leaving the warmth of his bed to drag himself to the door. He held the doorknob and pushed it down until both could hear a subtle click. Opening only enough for a thin light to creep its way into his room before moving back to his bed, he sat on the edge of the mattress and ran his fingers through his messy golden locks.
- Papa? - A small voice called for him as the opening grew, making the light increase its intensity and dispel the darkness within. The owner of that voice was no older than 5. Even though she was standing against the light that concealed her delicate features, he could make them out with ease.
His eyes followed the little girl wobbling her way towards him with the cartoonist stuffed wolf's noodle legs hanging and swaying from side to side in her tiny, chubby arms. It was a gift he gave her after she started living with him and became his daughter less than a year ago.
He waited until she was close enough to scoop her up and lay her down on the mattress beside him, tucking her in the covers. He stood there, supporting his body in one of his sides and using his hand to hold his face as he kept his icy-blue eyes on her.
- Thank you. - She whispered, snuggling closer to him and hiding her face against his chest.
