OK I know I sound like such a cynical asshole but I seriously cannot muster up any emotions about John’s death. I’ve been expecting it for months, and if anything, I’m disappointed that SK didn’t subvert my expectations. The thing is, I think they had kind of reached his limit as a character. He didn’t have much else to offer the story. Michael, however, has tons of plot potential, and I have a really hard time believing he would die in the first episode. Not only that but because Polly’s already struggling so much I don’t think they would wreck her further by killing her son. Of course, I could be wrong about that. It’s not like Polly’s allowed to be happy.
There have been whispers of “two major deaths” this season and I think they will be John and Alfie.
ANYWAY, I love John and enjoyed Joe Cole so much as an actor, so this isn’t me just not caring because I didn’t like the character, I’m just disappointed by the predictability. My biggest fear is that we will lose Esme along with John, which would be a major loss. Aimee Ffion-Edwards is amazing.
I LOVE ADA and I thought she was wonderful. I don’t necessarily think she was OOC -- I think we’re seeing her grow up. She’s a single mom. She has to provide for her kid, and she’s found a highly effective way to do that -- working for Tommy. Working for Tommy has given her the independence she’s always wanted while still allowing her to be involved with her family and have influence over them. I think Ada’s too much a Shelby to ever drift too far. Bear in mind, as always, that I’m speaking as someone who loves Ada Shelby with her whole heart and wants to believe the best about her.However, I’m praying we get some kind of interaction between her and Jessie Eden, because it will be interesting to see her reminded of her former political ambitions.
