 Yeshaving thought about it there are but they’re mostly sorts of high tech torturethat don’t really happen in the realworld.

 Sensory deprivation for example requires a specially builtroom or a specially built tank. Both of these are hard to fudge or cobbletogether. They’re complicated, specialised and large.

 Which is exactly why they’re not used in real life.

 Historical scarring torture often used equipment, but it wasusually one piece of specialised equipment per technique. Thumb screws wereeverywhere, but there wasn’t (as far as I know) any particular technique forusing multiple pieces of equipment/techniques at the same time.

 Equipment is more likely to build up based on a variety oftechniques rather than one specifictechnique.

 Modern torture doesuse equipment but it’s often multipurpose: handcuffs, chili powder, chairs,hose pipes, phone books and further back telephone magnetos. Things thatsoldiers or police officers neededand couldn’t be taken away easily.

 And again each piece of equipment would be associated withone technique, rather than multiple pieces of equipment being necessary for one technique.

 The problem with obvious equipment in a modern setting isthat torture is against the law. Yeseven in Syria and the half dozen other places you’re probably thinking of.Obvious equipment, especially large equipment, means obvious evidence that’sdifficult to hide.

 If you want a lot of intimidating equipment in your story Istrongly suggest a historical setting (although a dystopian world or sci fiworld with the correct sort of world building would also work well).

 If you want to use a lot of equipment in a single torture sceneit would be more realistic to switch from one method to another.

 It wouldn’t be impossibleto use multiple pieces of equipment at once, but if you do try to keep track ofwhat goes where. A lot of the devicesused are bulky and there’s a limited amount that can fit on one human being.You can’t physically get someone in a leg-screw and on the rack at the sametime. You also can’t really get someone in a scold’s bridle and waterboard themat the same time.
