Introduction: The city-state of Thul is the “capital” city of the Pewter Alliance. It is known as this because Thul is the heart of politics for the Alliance. It does this by maintaining order between each city-state in the Alliance and acting as the primary diplomats between the Medus Gols and organic lifeforms . It is the second smallest city-state in the Pewter Alliance at about 270 square miles in area; Bery and Palla are larger by comparison and Caes is slightly smaller. Like all Gol civilizations, Thul follows an communistic ideology and only elevates Soul Minds into leadership if they have the largest accumulated knowledge among the Soul Minds in the city, and if Prometheus has found favor in them.
History: Due to the complicated nature of the Gol Empire, and the secretive nature of Gols, there are limited facts known about the history of Thul. It is known that the Medus Gols keep excellent records of their history of days long past, but most of these records are kept in Memory Monoliths, which are giant stone slabs embedded with MSS-19 and Gol technology. By One Minding with a Memory Monolith, Gols can access and store countless centuries worth of information in a single stone. Any attempts by organic lifeforms to access these Monoliths without the aid of a Gol is futile. After decades of political debate, the Medus have given limited access of Base Stones to scholars; Base Stones are Monoliths that contain common Gol knowledge. However, very little is known from the other types of Memory Monoliths, from Wisdom Stones that hold knowledge of Gol culture, philosophy, literature, and art to Sacred Stones, which hold details of the history of Prometheus, religious texts, and Their dealings in the world.
What has been gleaned about the city-state of Thul is that Thul was originally built around 358,000 GE (Gol Era). The city-state was the second Medus city-state to be created after Palla, which was created around 376,000 GE. The first Thul lasted for about 60,000 years before a massive avalanche from Prometheus’ Pinnacle buried the city under thousands of feet of rubble. This disaster is known as The Aequandi Event, and most Medus agree that it was divine punishment by Prometheus for the first city straying from Prometheus’ ways.
The second and current Thul was built on the wreckage of the first city around 292,000 GE. This Thul prospered much better than the first city-state, and while it never reached the size of Bery or wealth of Palla, Thul was known as the most devote city-state to Prometheus among the Medus Gols. The priests of Prometheus soon became a prominent fixture in Thul’s society, and some say they grew to have as much influence as the wisest Soul Mind government. Nowadays, the head priest of Golism is typically a member of the Soul Mind government of Thul, and possesses as much weight as the other members.
Geography: Like the other city-states of the Pewter Alliance, Thul lies in the Tors Mountains as the most northern Medus city-state. It rests on Stannum Mountain, just northeast of Prometheus’ Pinnacle. Stannum Mountain is one of the shortest mountains in the Tors Mountains and isn’t as rich in minerals as the other mountains in the region. Due to the destruction of ancient Thul, it is believed that the ancient city could be accessed with the proper excavation tools, but the site is considered profane under religious laws. North of Thul is Mirror Lake, which is home to various species of hardy fish and marine life. During the Mineral Wars, Aquatic Typhons would travel up river and attack Thul from Mirror Lake.
Demographics: Since the fall of the Gol Empire, the Medus Gols had to forfeit all rights to own Degenerate slaves; prior to the War of the End, Degenerates made up more than half the population of Thul. Nowadays, the population of Thul is 90% Medus Gols. The other 10% consists of Oyd and Eln Gols.
