Stricken Star
Reading alone on a lamp-lit porch,
I hear my phone and see your name.
I smile reflexively, remembering, rusty,
the premonitions still--
How long have I tried to excite these
flexed toes, held breath
Assuming the struggle of years
floating round septic reservoirs
I feel sucked inside out
A dim bumble of a past
I have loved you in several lives
That blur
Is me spinning around,
Your fingertips recalled.
