49 Three Hotels by Jon Robin Baitz dir by Gary Griffin. Another job I backed my way into. A highly successful show that had been running at the dearly departed Ivanoe theatre for a while, I came in to cover running crew when the person who previously had the job had to move on. The play itself is three monologues, each one delivered in a different hotel room, so most of the crew work consisted of changing and making a bed twice, something I didn’t even do at home. I also got paid extra to do the laundry, and the first time I did it, I left some handkerchiefs sitting on my table at home. Unfortunately, the actor spilled some honey on the backup, and at 7:45 on a Friday night, I am frantically running up and down Clark Ave looking for anyplace that sold handkerchiefs, ended up running all the way down to the Century Mall, up six flights of mall, paid my own money which was most of what I made that weekend, to run back to the Ivanhoe to make it in time for curtain. A play that was beautifully performed, and one I wouldn’t mind doing myself one day. Good thing too, since it was so dark backstage I could pretty much only listen to it every night. #retrospective #1995 #appletreetheatre #threehotels #garygriffin #runningcrew #handkerchiefs (at Binny's) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5sNgGxpjeD/?igshid=1gux0rch65e5h
