Dear Gus & Magnus,
Gus had his final regular season baseball game tonight -- the end-of-season tournament starts in a couple of weeks. When we walked out of the dugout after the game, we found Mom, Yiayia, and Magnus playing on the little-kid field. Gus joined in. Everyone giggled the whole time. It's fun having a playful Mom and Yiayia.
Dad.

Look, if pre-rewrite About Ray was more dutiful in research and accuracy and more respectful to real people and our suffering than your movie about the horrific torture and murder of a real man, at that point I cannot believe it was well-intentioned in any way. Like, you had to actively try to be that atrocious. I don't doubt research was done, and it was done specifically so they could be that disrespectful.
AND AT LEAST ABOUT RAY GOT REWRITTEN TO BE MORE SENSITIVE AND ACCURATE AFTER THE INITIAL BACKLASH
wasn’t in the script: A flawed, cis-coded film about a trans teen exposes a painful truth: we’re expected to be the adults before anyone…
Three Generations is often remembered for its controversy — a cis actress playing a trans teen, a director who misgendered the protagonist, and a script that catered more to straight audiences than to the community it aimed to portray. But beneath its flaws, the film accidentally reveals something striking:
The quiet burden of being the most emotionally mature person in a room full of adults who claim to love you.
In a pivotal scene, Ray sits silently in his father Craig’s immaculate mid-century home while his mother Maggie and Craig argue about consent forms for hormone therapy. For several agonizing beats, he says nothing. He just listens as his parents debate whether he should be allowed to transition — not in terms of support, but legality, logistics, and personal discomfort.
Then Ray explodes. Not out of confusion, but clarity. He sees exactly what’s happening: the people who are supposed to protect him are stalling, hedging, and centering themselves. His future is in jeopardy because the adults can’t get over their own feelings. His outburst is sudden, raw, and deeply earned.
It’s the emotional core of the film — and the most trans moment in it.

Three generations in the frame holding hands; me, my mom, and my mom's mom. It's strange to think how time flies.
I am a grown-up woman now, my mom is aging and; my nani is aging more.
Nani's hands that fed me are wrinkled now, she is holding the joy, pain, grief, and happiness of her life, in her eyes, I see time passing by, her innocent smile melts my heart, every time I see her, I witness my childhood and my life, It's beautiful to think about Matrilineality, Nani is in Mom, and Mom is in me, life is indeed mysterious in a captivating way.
