Vermont Candidate Desarae Morin: Letter Threatened to Rape and Kill

Desarae Morin is a Republican candidate for a seat in the Vermont House of Representatives. She says she received a letter threatening to rape and kill her that was pieced together from her own campaign materials. She posted the letter on her Facebook page with this note:

“I’ve received my first official death threat, also rape threat… And a threat to all Vermont Republicans.

EDMONTON, April 30. - Edmonton city police admitted today they were working on the Rev. J. M. Comyn-Ching case, in which the rector of Christchurch here was reported to have received a note threatening the kidnapping of his 21-year-old daughter, Margaret, unless $5,000 was forthcoming.

Police officials believe they know the identity of the would-be extortionists and samples of their handwriting will be obtained for comparison by experts with the writing of the kidnap note.

When he reported the threatening letter, Rev. Comyn-Ching was given instructions by police to speak to no one of the case. He was advised to show a willingness to pay over the $5,000 should further word be received from the men.

Page 3. --- Think "Three Judges of Hell" May Have Counterpart Here ---- Organization of a gang in Toronto with the same objects as "the three judges of hell" who have been terrorizing the citizens of Paris, France, was regarded as a possibility to-day with receipt of a threatening letter by Mayor Stewart.

The letter, signed "W.U.L.." states that if his worship does not conduct himself in accordance with their wishes the gang will cast lots to select one of the group, whose task will be to mete out death to the mayor. It also states that the same fate awaits any of his successors who do not conform to the wishes of the gang.

The mayor handed the letter over to the police for investigation. Although great pains had been taken to conceal the identity of the authors, it is hoped the letter may provide some clue for the police. The mayor took pains to see that no possible fingerprints were erased.

"W.U.L.". mused his worship. when he opened the letter. "What does that mean? Workers' Unity League?"

It is believed the letter is the result of unsuccessful efforts of certain persons to address the board of control during recent weeks. It was remarked to-day that the word "parasite" which appears in the letter has been frequently used in the council chamber on these occasions.

"This is only one of the many letters I receive." stated the mayor. "I pay to it the same attention as I have to the rest. What that is, is my own business. They are all forwarded to the police department. The reason for handing this out is that I receive a flock of these letters, and if people doubt there are agitators, here is a piece of evidence."
