Twice as Nice? This year I promised to regularly post questions and insights from my client experiences…so here we go!! We have all done this….bought duplicate items either in different colors or the exact same color, or repeat items in multiple sizes. I know, I know. You couldn’t decide what color (or size!) to buy, so you just bought both?! It seems counterintuitive, but as I have refined how I manage my own closet, I have learned that this approach is counterproductive. Here’s why… Buying duplicates: · Reduces the variety in your closet causing you to quickly tire of it. · Wastes money because duplicate items often become “orphaned." · Bulks up your closet making it harder to see those things you should be wearing. · Doesn’t reduce stress. (Don’t convince yourself that you will be sad when the items is old and worn, just focus on your next great find!) · Is crazy, not clever. How many duplicate items do you have in your closet? #threadsofhershey #clientquestionsandinsights #personalstyle #personalstylist #styleblogger #wardrobecoach #buyinginduplicates
The Case for Investment Pieces This year, I promised to regularly post questions and insights from my client experiences...so here we go!! Building the perfect closet happens in stages, requiring money, time and thoughtful research. But what pieces are worth the splurge? For this answer, you can poll the stylists, search for lists on Pinterest, and even get great advice from sales people. But this week, working with an amazing client, I realized that those pieces are totally and completely personal (as they should be!), just like personal style itself. My client had a relatively compact closet but it was sprinkled, like star dust, with some amazing pieces from designers like Valentino, LK Bennett, and Hermes. Better yet, her pieces were not traditional or simple. Instead, she opted for investment pieces with a twist like a classic jacket but in a bold metallic print (see photo), and black heels but in a strappy velvet. I love how she took a risk and invested in pieces that were anything but boring or expected and that were personal to her!! #threadsofhershey #clientquestionsandinsights #personalstyle #styleblogger #investmentpiece #valentino #lkbennett
Ill Fitting Clothes Can Ruin Your Style…and Confidence This year, I promised to regularly post questions and insights from my client experiences...so here we go!! Last week I worked with an amazing client who admitted to me that she was a “bad” shopper and, as a result, had avoided shopping for years (she showed up in a 10-year-old button down shirt just to prove it!)! Bad Shopper grew up the third of five children and new clothes were a rarity. As a result, she described a childhood closet dominated by ill-fitting, baggy hand-me-downs in a range of sizes and styles. Because Bad Shopper never learned how to size properly, she lacked the skills as adult. I used a strategy that I call the “Jean Strategy,” however, this strategy also applies to bathing suits, blazers, dresses, etc! It requires effort, but I encourage my clients to try on multiple sizes and styles of the same item in a single fitting. For example, I encouraged Bad Shopper to try on 8-12 pairs of jeans before determining the perfect fit/style. I quickly realized that Bad Shopper wasn’t a bad shopper at all! She just needed the skills to identify those items that fit her body well, and that felt good, and those that did not! Through this repetitive process, she learned that quality time with her personal stylist J combined with attention to detail are all that’s required for a perfect fit. #threadsofhershey #clientquestionsandinsights #JeanStrategy #perfectfit
Had to post this pic of my clients looking absolutely gorgeous as she dashes off the Inaugural Ball! Stunning! The dress is from Rent the Runway, and the sparkly earrings and aubergine velvet clutch give the look a wow factor! #threadsofhershey #inauguralball #renttherunway
