“It’s been a while. We had a rough few days.” He sighed and closed his eyes, almost ready to fall asleep. “I missed you, though. Running on coffee and... I don’t even know if I ate, isn’t good at all.” He sleepily opened his eyes a bit and looked at Merri. “When’s the last time you slept? Cause I haven’t been in bed much.” He knew that she slept better if he was around, but because of the case it had been a while since he got proper sleep in a bed. 

“Laurel, I can handle anything. Go ahead and tell me.” He put a plate in front of her, handing her a fork and a napkin. Pride set down the plate next to her, sliding into the chair next to her. “Hey, you know you can talk to me, Laurel. I may not be your mother, but I understand a lot of things.”
