so here was the problem: she loved them, but nicoâs friends had fucking terrible taste. nico was looking forward to a chill night, a few drinks with friends while she regaled them all with stories of her latest tinder match gone wrongâsomething that happened often enough that even nico could admit she was the problem more than anything else, the way she got caught up in wanting and, more importantly, being wanted, only to move on sooner rather than laterâbut unfortunately, someone had invited maritza too.
here was the bigger problem: nico must have a masochistic streak somewhere, because when she got bored, maritza was a reliable source of entertainment. and, well. nico got bored a lot. call it a character flaw, but monotony made her want to climb the walls. maritza was the last person nico wouldâve invited out tonight, but even a fight was more entertaining than just sitting around.Â
sheâd been told multiple times that she was just making it worse, making things awkward for their mutual connections, that the best thing she could do was be the better personâbut obviously, nico wasnât going to do that. not when maritza made it so easy. nico pushed off the wall, addressing the whole group as she spoke. âanyone want a drink? not you,â she added, spinning to face maritza in particular. âi know you think iâd poison yours or something.â
