WIP Wednesday: TIE Defender Project
Thrawn x Krennic's wife!reader with a little bit of Thranto thrown in the mix for Thrantovember.
Also, in the AU of the Director of the Advanced Weapons Research, there is no place for Morgan Elsbeth.
Once he returned to his office, it was already quite late – time had progressed more than he had anticipated, and Thrawn was ready to offer you an apology for that. The darkened space was illuminated by the holoprojections hovering over his desk, and he noticed a new set of designs that you had sketched out in his absence. But you were nowhere in sight. Until the slightest moan of distress betrayed your position, quickening his pace as he walked further in, followed by Commander Vanto.
He spotted you at the seating area, sprawled over the sofa.
“I think she’s sleeping, sir,” Vanto offered a small smile.
“Obviously.” Despite that, he was concerned with the nature of the sound they both heard. He had gleaned so little information about you, and it made him wonder what exactly you had to endure to be followed by night terrors into the realm of dreaming, too.
He had ordered water and some refreshments brought to you and noticed that the pitcher was almost empty. A blanket that Vanto had left there after one of their late evening discourses was now covering your legs, hanging haphazardly off the edge of the makeshift bed. Your travelling cloak and slippers were discarded on its edge.
The only logical thing to do Thrawn could think of was carrying you to a proper bed, his argument being that a proper rest would be beneficial for the child. You did not even stir when he scooped your warm body up, and his partner did not offer him a single piece of his mind on the matter, either.
Returning a few moments later, he spied Eli studying the projections. “Sir, is this what she’s been working on for you?” the younger man asked.
“And practical,” Thrawn offered, sitting at his desk, fingers steepled under his chin. “Technically, they are far superior to those the person Captain Pellaeon recruited for the project produced so far. From what I have seen so far, plans for TIE Defenders by Morgan Elsbeth have been subpar at best.”
“But it doesn’t make much sense – Captain Pellaeon… I mean no disrespect, sir, but I have been under an impression that he involved her some time ago already. While Lady Krennic –“ he stopped abruptly, eyes widening with realisation. “You’ve given her access to the classified files?”
“Only the most basic ones,” Thrawn shrugged. “She had come up with these in less than five months – quite efficient if you ask my opinion. Besides, Lady Krennic seems to be capable of achieving her goals on her own terms.” He then showed him the TIE Avenger and StarViper schematics you had acquired on your own. “These two were not a part of the package.”
“Is this some kind of industrial espionage?” Vanto hissed, lowering his voice so only Thrawn could hear him.
“A mystery that remains to be solved, my dear Eli.”
