#thoughts:#I’ve said that I never want to be someone’s whole world #and I think that is still true for now #especially because I am not ready for a relationship and honestly right now I barely have time for friendships #but my parents built a life together #their worlds are indistinguishable from one another’s #they are their own little world #with varying interests and acceptance and love and boredom and freedom and love and love and love #so maybe someday I’d want a world indistinguishable from someone else’s #but it needs to be built #it cannot be driven by obsession or passion or insecurity or loneliness #it must be built upon years spent together and lives lived together and hardships faced together #I won’t settle for anything less than what my parents have built and I am SO LUCKY to be able to say that #I’ve seen love in action #I’ve seen hard work and disagreements and stress #I’ve NEVER seen my parents violate each other’s boundaries or say mean things to each other #they get snippy/have some attitude from time to time #but each time they almost always say ‘I’m sorry. you didn’t deserve that.’#one of the most powerful things I’ve ever heard anyone say what my mom says when me/my brother/my father have gotten snappy:#‘I know you are stressed/frustrated/sad. but I don’t deserve to be spoken to like that.’#WHAT AN EXAMPLE OF CALMLY ADVOCATING FOR YOURSELF #this is a mess I have a lot of feelings #basically:#1) I’m lucky to have grown up seeing such things #2) I eventually want what my parents have #3) I realize that what my parents have takes time and hard work #26
