i think that evangelism is bad because it is inherently preformative and nobody is actually embodying what God is about and people think we should be spreading God's word by telling people they must convert for salvation but in reality we should be embodying what it means to be loved by God and that means sharing with others and being good people even to those we see as not following what we should be doing. school fails to actually teach students because it value progress over understanding so as long as you can perform well it doesn't matter if you've learned and so it only works for people who can learn new things quickly and time and patience when learning a new skill are not valued. why can't i take sunscreen in a pill form.
Thought Problem - Vijay Seshadri
How strange would it be if you met yourself on the street?
How strange if you liked yourself,
took yourself in your arms, married your own self,
propagated by techniques known only to you,
and then populated the world? Replicas of you are everywhere.
Some are Arabs. Some are Jews. Some live in yurts. It is
an abomination, but better that your
sweet and scrupulously neat self
emerges at many points on the earth to watch the horned moon rise
than all those dolts out there,
turning into pillars of salt wherever we look.
If we have to have people, let them be you,
spritzing your geraniums, driving yourself to the haberdashery,
killing your supper with a blowgun.
Yes, only in the forest do you feel at peace,
up in the branches and down in the terrific gorges,
but you’ve seen through everything else.
You’ve fled in terror across the frozen lake,
you’ve found yourself in the sand, the palace,
the prison, the dockside stews;
and long ago, on this same planet, you came home
to an empty house, poured a Scotch-and-soda,
and sat in a recliner in the unlit rumpus room,
puzzled at what became of you.
Faith vs. Knowledge?
Okay, you are an atheist. Not an agnostic but a dyed in the wool Hitchens quoting atheist. You are alone in the desert on a little R&R. One night the heavens open up, a winged being of pure light descends and says "I am Gabriel, angel of God Almighty and I am here to show you the kingdom of heaven" and he proceeds to do just that. You see the gates of heaven, the mansions of the holy and all the heavenly hosts. Then you see the Lord God himself sitting on his throne in all of his majesty. Then Gabriel turns to you and says "tomorrow you will think this all a dream" and he reaches for your iPhone and takes a selfie with you.
The next morning you wake and you think to yourself "what a dream" and then you remember your phone and sure enough, there it is. Gabriel and you in front of the gates of heaven. Not only that but you show it to people and they see it too. Okay, now for the next part. Â You are a true Christian, you believe in God and his angels with all of your heart. How, then, is the man of faith's subjective experience any difference than the man who saw God with his own eyes?
I say, no difference at all. They are exactly the same. How about you?Â
Four Men in Hats - a puzzle.
Shown above are four men buried up to their necks in the ground. They cannot move, so they can only look forward. Between A and B is a brick wall which cannot be seen through.
They all know that between them they are wearing four hats--two black and two white--but they do not know what color they are wearing. Each of them know where the other three men are buried.
In order to avoid being shot, one of them must call out to the executioner the color of their hat. If they get it wrong, everyone will be shot. They are not allowed to talk to each other and have 10 minutes to fathom it out.
After one minute, one of them calls out.
Question:Â Which one of them calls out? Why is he 100% certain of the color of his hat?
This is not a trick question. There are no outside influences nor other ways of communicating. They cannot move and are buried in a straight line; A & B can only see their respective sides of the wall, C can see B, and D can see B & C.
