Two Halves Of The Law | A Danplan Mafia AU

Summary:

Hosuh, a run-of-the-mill cop, has never strayed from the path of the law. Nothing eventful has ever happened in his otherwise principled and periodic life. That was until a case came into his peripheral, a murder of a beheaded woman. The detective assigned to it and his close childhood friend, Daniel, managed to convince him to investigate a certain street with him. It was there Hosuh happened upon a man down a murky alleyway. A man with violet hair and piercing dahlia purple eyes. A man who, coincidently, was none other than the head of a mafia, Stephen. Through striking a deal, the cop and detective agree to work with Stephen to find the killer and bring justice, all as long the mafia remain secret. And so, hijinks ensue as Hosuh is sucked into the world crime as he uncovers the truth of the “justice” he seeks. Through cartels, a rival mafia, lots of lies, dirty desires and even more murder, who could this mastermind be?

I'm doing something a bit different this time by using moodboards. I'm actually really happy with how they turned out.

I have some really wonderful news! I’m finally writing again! and I’m honestly a bit emotional about it.

I’ve been in a really difficult place mentally, and because of that I was dealing with a pretty awful writer’s block. But it finally lifted. I can work on chapter 7 again, the ideas are flowing, and the scenes are showing up in my brain like they used to.

I also want to apologize for the huge delay with chapter 7. I promise there wasn’t a single day I didn’t think about this story. I’m just really happy to finally be able to work on it again.

Thank you so much for your patience, and for the insane support and kind messages. They truly mean more to me than I can put into words.

So, just for the sake of clarification:

The love between Lando and Max is absolutely romantic and entirely genuine. Their relationship predates the beginning of the story by many, many years, and by the time we meet them, they have already built a life together.

I think part of the confusion may come from the fact that Lando is, affectionately speaking, a bit of a whore.

He enjoys sex, enjoys flirting, enjoys affection, and generally approaches those things with far less restraint than most of the other characters. That's simply part of who he is. But his enjoyment of casual relationships was never meant to be interpreted as a lack of love for Max.

To me, those two things are completely separate. Lando can be deeply devoted to Max while also being a very sexually open person. The existence of one does not invalidate the other.

At no point was I intending for readers to think that Lando was staying with Max out of guilt, obligation, or some sense of debt. If anything, Lando is probably the least likely character in the entire story to remain in a relationship he doesn't genuinely want to be in.

Likewise, the relationship between Charles and Lando is also romantic. It's a slower and more gradual development than Charles's relationship with Max, but it is nonetheless romantic.

One of the things I wanted to explore in this story was the idea that love can take many forms and grow in many different directions without necessarily competing with itself.
