HI TUMBLR
I came back to share a sweet sci fi idea I had while falling asleep the other night NICE TO SEE four of the people I followed four years ago are still posting! This is the only place I could think to post this so:
Okay so as the eons pass and the surface of the planet becomes less habitable, humans branch into two main clans: subsurface and synthetically enhanced. Subsurface humans live underground obvs, synthetically enhanced humans survive on the surface through augmenting themselves with organs and parts not reliant on our delicate organic needs.
Technology is nuts, but hey guess what turns out intergalactic space travel is still impossible because the distances are too damn vast and organic bodies are too damn flimsy. So humanity’s tech veers more into manipulating local space and time. Oh and communication evolved into implants and nobody has to use their voices.
So subsurface humans adapt to the dark of the underground, but still have sweet tech. Their bodies atrophy while their brains grow. They’re pale. Their eyes grow and adjust to the dark. Buncha egghead gollums. All radiated from the ground too. (a lot of today’s basements have radium in the air because there’s radiation in the ground, you can’t just dig a hole and live down there easy peasy)
They also play with time travel. Driven by anthropological interests they travel back to observe humanity’s past, but everyone knows you have to time travel naked so they keep arriving in the past and getting fucked up because they look bonkers.
When primitive humans from the past see them they lose their shit and exaggerate their appearance in movies etc. Also the subsurface crew can’t communicate with past humans because time phased out their vocal cords.
You probably know where this is going but this is them.
THEY’RE US YA DINGBATS.
Yes I’m saying time travel is more feasible than intergalactic space travel. Suck it nerds I’m out.
