If Nora is a regent for her son, why is she still monarch? Wouldn’t she have stepped down once he was of age?
BOOM! Therein lies the actual issue/drama with her and it's the premise of Dr. Thorne's book and why the family is scared and doing all these plans to block him out.
In short, Nora was so young when her husband died, so was their son -- the idea was the regency would end at his 16th birthday....but as that approached, it was always something new - school, economy, global unrest...it kinda just didn't happen and people, not really paying too much attention to things like the constitution and regencies -- kinda "grandmothered" her into it -- and now, several generations later, people don't know anything other than her -- except the academics and historians. There are even several politicians who call her a usurper and think she has created a constitutional crisis that undermines the entire monarchy. Many believes that she is a danger to the theory of divine right and the family's legitimacy -- thus the name of Dr. Thorne's book.
This was a fun ask and I'm happy you asked!
