That one moment in Tender is the Flesh where Marcos is meeting with Urlet and it describes the various human heads on the wall he keeps as hunting trophies, then promptly tells us he has framed photos from before "the Transition" of hunters posing with the corpses of African people they'd hunted for sport. Murder had already been legitimized, cannibalism already existed as an industry. The world didn't go to hell after "the Transition," it just got better at branding.
