          johnny maneuvers into an open space, thankful it’s after 7 pm & the parking meters aren’t begging for change. (he doesn’t have any.) a quick stop by the bank filled his wallet with crisp green bills, but he lacks the clanking variety of currency required to satiate the meter. nerves swim in his stomach as he turns off the ignition. he re-reads the last messages exchanged between himself & kara, confirming he’s at the right coffee shop. sliding his phone into his pocket, johnny climbs out of the car, into the crisp fall evening.            first impressions are important & he is hoping kara appreciates his attention to detail. when she challenged him to dress as WALDO (it didn’t take much convincing) he made it his mission to perfect the entire outfit. he did not want to settle for a cheap party city costume in a bag. thanks to a local thrift store, amazon, & his grandfather, johnny was able to put together (what he believes) is an immaculate waldo outfit. he even borrowed his mother’s flat iron to manage his usual mop of curls.               it’s a short walk from his car to the coffee shop, the warmth comforts his chilled skin, & he settles himself at a window table near some twinkling candy corn lights. with a friendly smile he dismisses the waitress, i’m waiting for a friend, & rests his hands folded on the table. he worries his bottom lip between his teeth, resisting the urge to check his phone. am i early?

NO. 13 :     NAME ONE THING THEIR PARENT(S) TAUGHT THEM.

there are a great many things that matt’s learned from his father,   i think –   but the first one that comes to mind definitely has to do with his own personal sense of perseverance,   and grit.   how matt will continuously hit the figurative “mat”,   but will himself to get back up regardless of the circumstances,   or how bad he’s hurting in the moment.   matt’s father was a boxer,   and,   as matt notes,   he took far more punches than he actually dished out in the ring.   but no matter how many times he got hit,   or how many times his opponent knocked him down,   he’d always get himself right back up.   push through the pain,   take down his opponent –   “ back him into a corner and wail on him,   let the devil out “,   to use matt’s own words.   because as matt understood it growing up,   and as he understands it to this day,   that’s what he and his father –   murdocks   – do.   they always pick themselves back up.

and with regard to matt’s perpetual struggle / his dual-life as daredevil,   i think that’s really important?   growing up with his father,   who never went down without a fight,   stitching up his wounds and having all of those “pep talks” with him,   as they were –   i think it has a lot to do with his current level of resilience,   his threshold for pain  ( though matt often credits his catholicism for that ),  and his ability to keep on going in spite of the fact that literally all forces and odds are against him.   boxers have never been known to go down particularly easy,   and i suppose the same could be said of the sons of boxers,   as well.

She hated it; she understood why they didn’t trust Kara, after all she was dating Ward, but what was the point of keeping in her a cell? If they were afraid she might hurt them over her personal connection with someone who had betrayed them and that they had tried to kill, why not send her away from the base, free her now that all traces of brainwashing were gone? Jemma was one of the least trusting people in SHIELD at this point, but Kara Palamas had been nothing but an outstanding agent before being captured, everything evil she had done was done with her being used as a weapon, not to be blamed for it, and she shouldn’t be locked up for it. Nor she’d expect her to go out and hurt innocents, especially since Ward himself wasn’t killing people out there and them joining forces again had no reason to lead to a slaughter.  If people got locked up for potential evil, then she’d have been put in a cell too just weeks ago, when Fitz had told her her changes were the scary ones.  Breaking Kara out would likely put her in a Ward-position, however, and Jemma could be wrong about her, she had been wrong about Ward - something that would always haunt her, every time she made a new friend, no matter how close -  so anything was possible.  It was driving her crazy.

“I kept track of him for a while... Not constantly. I’m not... going after him or anything like that anymore. He’s fine, he’s... behaving, not causing any problem, I think he’s also still going after Hydra like us... And if he left you here, well, that’s just proof he cares, and that SHIELD doesn’t have to worry about him coming after us again. That helps.” Before Kara could likely protest about him not having come after them, she added: “He kidnapped Skye, remember? To bring her to her father? But now everything is... calm. On that front. And you’ll see him soon, I’m doing my best to solve this... problem...” she gestured at the room, and folded her arms, “And have you out as soon as we can, but our little inhuman situation is turning out to be very distracting from all... superior officers, I guess, if you want to call that bunch of-the other faction of SHIELD that. And when you do, I’ll see if we can track him down, maybe Skye will give me a hand, so you can reunite with him.”

               CASEY PAUSES, A USUALLY deadly choice, but he recognizes the face from the one case they’d worked together.
