13) your strengths as an author

I wish people would tell me their thoughts on this! 

What I enjoy most, and what I think I’m best at, is getting into a character’s head. I work hard at understanding their motivations, their insecurities, and what would ultimately make them happy. I like digging into the painful parts of their past, but the ultimate goal is for them to find a way to begin healing. 

I worry sometimes that this will make people close out of my longer fics in boredom. PDIW is 203k, tide pulls is 45k, and Last to Know (my Voltron/Sheith fic) is 39k. None of them have plots, technically. 

In my mind, they all have distinct structures and arcs, with beats that I needed to hit along the way to make it all work. But if you look at them, that’s 288,529 words of wounded characters learning how to be comfortable in their own skin - and how to let someone past whatever barriers they’ve constructed.

I personally think there’s a ton to explore there, and I’m grateful that people have enjoyed reading what kind of boil down to extended character studies. It’s the aspect of reading that I’ve always liked the most - if I particularly love a book, it’s because it made me feel something - so I guess it makes sense that it would be where I focus my energies as a writer.
