And Ilya, so self-assured and brazen in front of the cameras, rarely lets his guard down in real life. Shane offers so much information about himself, but he doesn't even know that Ilya's mother had passed away. Ilya doesn't even correct him, just says his dad might be there when Shane asks whether his parents will be there to watch him play during the Olympics. I can only imagine what Ilya must feel like when Shane talks about his supportive parents and his 'normal' family, when Ilya's own doesn't want anything to do with him unless it is to reprimand him for his failures or ask him for money.
