eons ago, sol (the sun), was birthed from the fission of the universe. the nearby stars watched and cood over her glow and taught her the way of the galaxy. millennia passed and sol began to grow, watching the galaxy she occupied collect debris that she later formed into planets. and when the stars thought she was ready, they granted her the gift of life.

with this newfound power and responsibility, she cultivated a new planet, populated with creatures that she called "earth". she watched as her rays brought on plants and animals, captivated by their lives. almost in a trance, she moved close, dangerously close, only to be blocked off by a smaller figure.

"careful now" she whispered flatly. "you worked hard to create them, and it would be a shame to undo that effort now".

sol looked at her blankly. she wasn't aware that a visitor arrived. and as if she read her mind, she spoke.

"mani. i'm the half that provides the mortals respite from your rays"

"respite?" sol asked. "but i'm the being of life, surely my creations need my care?"

mani chuckled, a fond sound. "they are delicate things, needing the careful balance of light and dark, life and death" looking back at earth with softness in her features.

sol peered over her shoulder, reluctantly understanding the message.

"but how can i observe my children at such a distance" she questioned, sorrow lacing her tone.

mani turned to face sol, quiet for a moment. "how about a compromise? on the first half rotation, i'll observe life blossom under your care and on the second i'll come back to relay all that has occurred. does that seem fair?"

sol hummed, thinking the deal over. as much as she wanted to see her children for herself, she couldn't risk the loss of them. sol made an affirmative noise, "i accept, but please be as thorough as you can be. i want to feel as if i'm living beside them"

and so the "mani-sol" cycle began. mani watching quietly, learning every detail of the creatures that inhabit the planet, watching as they grow and evolve, and returning to sol, embracing her, shielding the earth as she sings about her busy creations. how they relish in her rays and absorb the life energy gifted from her. together, they became the "day-night" cycle we know today.
