get it right, get it tight. not so much. but i had this crazy realization the other day in carpool. thanks in large part to my lovely passengers. these things (skin, weight, etc.) take time. i have been super consistent with my skincare. which is one of my major major major concerns and insecurities. i use the clarisonic. i do an evening routine, which for years was where i would lazy up. i hydrate and spot treat. i've significantly cut down on touching my face. i'm more conscious about what i eat and how much water i drink. and while i may not look in the mirror and see what i hoped i would see after a month of consistency, what i do see is subtle improvements. change is happening. smoother. less acne. less redness. more hydration. i'm going to be honest, i started the fitness portion of last month's goal with a big bad bang. i mean bad as in good. but then i ended it, just plain bad. i think the craziest thing about it is how much i actually love being at the gym. i get in a zone. i put those headphones in and i disappear into the stench of sweat and the land of dumbbells. the thing that i always struggle with, is finding the time. the problem is, i go straight home and i sit down. granted i've been working 10+ hour days, but it shouldn't be that hard to hit the gym before i go home. sometimes i wonder what it would be like if i set my alarm extra early, like the good ol' days when my guy worked first shift. he got up at 3:30/4:00. i followed and drove straight to the gym. knocked my workout out, showered, got ready for my day, and often times was able to get a quick power nap in before i went to work. these days, i'm lucky if i can even wake up on time to get to work by 8. so i suppose these are the kinks that take longer than a month to workout. i get the feeling it's time to just suck it up and drag my tired ass to muscleland. the main thing i wanted to accomplish this month, and this year, is getting back into habit of pampering myself. hair cuts, hair coloring, shellac manicures, pedicures, waxing, perfumes, facials, makeup, styling. it may take me longer to get ready in the morning than it used to, but i can honestly say taking that time is rewarding when you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror in the middle of a busy, stressful day and you remember how awesome it feels to look like you care. appearances may not be everything and you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but truthfully you've got absolutely nothing to lose by taking that extra few minutes to curl your hair instead of throwing it up in your everyday bun... or at least i don't.
