LOCATION: following devon's funeral FOR: savannah grady
THIAGO, QUITE FRANKLY, LOOKS a mess in contrast to the rest of the people here dressed in funeral attire. he's been in and out of the kitchen all day long while the rest of his staff is either over a stove or serving -- and he's already exhausted. and yet, he's still been making time amidst it all to socialize. check in with his people not just about the food, but how they were doing. because despite thiago not knowing the guy very well, he was close with many of the people who loved him. that, and he hadn't quite been able to shake the feeling in his chest that something was very, very wrong.
savannah. a friend. he's pulled out of his thoughts when he notices her across the way, breaking through the crowd of devon's loved ones to greet her.
" hey, sav. " thiago smiles warmly. he knows sav and devon were close as children, thus, he could imagine that this was an overwhelming time. " just wanted to check on you. you doing okay? "

LOCATION: following devon's funeral, outside of the venue FOR: josie sinclair
HE HAS JUST BEEN taking a second, putting some things that wouldn't be needed back in his truck. but, the fresh air feels too damn good to go back in just yet. the sound of the birds, the wind rustling in the trees is grounding amidst the adreneline that he's been feeling corseing through his body since the moment he set his feet on the floor. he can still hear julia's little voice in the back of his mind -- you look scared, daddy. why are you scared? even if he had denied it at the time, maybe his daughter was right. he was no stranger to funerals, considering that amidst the losses he had experienced in his life, they had buried his daughter's mother. but there were so many people who he had come to care about in that building, grieving someone who mattered to them all. if he could take away at least one worry, the food, he was happy to do it. thus, he wanted everything to be as perfect as it possibly could be.
but then his eyes fall on a figure in the distance, back pressed to the wall of the church. josie. and the closer he gets, back towards the parking lot -- he can see that she's crying. normally, he'd want to pulverise whatever made her cry, but he knows. he can understand it -- wanting to feel like you're holding on all day long, a pillar of strength because others need it, until it just simply becomes too much. thus, as he approaches he's gentle, making every effort he can not to scare her.
" oh, jo... "
even if he idles for a moment, unsure of what to do -- little time passes between the moment his eyes lock on her, and when he sits down at her side, offering arms for her to fall into. no judgement, just saftey. just a moment to have a pillar keeping her upright as she lets it all go.
" i've got you... i've got you.. "
he doesn't even take the time to process that he's holding her -- because the crush he's been nursing for months now is not what's important. what matters is that she needs somebody.

HOW LATE IS IT exactly? thiago doesn't quite know -- but he sent the rest of his staff home a long time ago. or again, at least it feels that way. he's been milling through paperwork, preparing to do some routine maintenance. the same work he had been doing since he was in his mid-twenties, it shouldn't take long. at least, that was what he appeared to be intent on telling himself -- every single time. julia was spending the night with her uncle as she so often did on a busy friday night. thiago had been smiling at a picture of his daughter watching nemo for what was probably the upteenth time on his way back to the office -- when he notices a figure outside the restaurant, completely stationary. does he dare open the door after devon's murder? call the police? none the less, they look familiar, none the less. he eventually makes the decision to make his way in the direction of the door, but just enough so he can see who it is. " hey, you good? " he questions, when he finally deems the decision safe enough. " we closed about an hour ago. "

" wait -- you spent how much on fran's stream last week? "
THE QUESTION RINGS OUT in the air as he sits across from his friend, the mixed aroma of diner food dancing in the air -- coming from the mass of diner food positioned between the two of them. was this a common conversation between the two of them? perhaps. not that thiago necessarily minded, considering it gave him an excuse to talk about josie. he kept most of his feelings close to his chest, as if talking about them would cause something to go wrong. at this rate though, perhaps it was best that a friend intervene. " have you ever thought of just... talking to her in the hallway or something? probably much cheaper than blowing your entire grocery budget. " he was one to talk, considering how flustered he found himself getting around her roommate. he had literally bought her food from the resturant the night before. how more obvious could he get?

LOCATION: floor seven hallway. FOR: natalia estrada.
IN THE AFTERMATH OF devon's death, the police ruling it a homicide -- thiago feels like his life here that he'd established with julia has been jolted. and yet, he's well aware that he's not the only one. such a heavy loss of a good person rings out in the air. he didn't know how close his neighbor was to devon, but he had always liked natalia. he thought she was friendly, confident and charming in a manner that he could only dream of being. he had always been more reserved than some of the other folks that he knew in this building: calm, quiet and rarely ever talkative. it appears that both of them are on the same schedule today, considering both are nearing their doors. " hey nat... " thiago greats the woman with a nod, offering her a gentle smile. he knows randomly offering an extended hand in this time may seem suspicious, he didn't want to scare her. " how are you feeling... with all this? it feels like we're ships passing in the night these days. "
THIAGO ORTIZ the THIRTY-TWO year old lives in ROOM THREE on FLOOR SEVEN. It is said that they have been here at Ellswick Tower for SIX MONTHS. The HEAD CHEF/OWNER AT THE SILVER VINE is said to be DEDICATED and SELF-CRITICAL which makes sense when you think about how they were a ACQUAINTANCE to Devon Carrington, who was just found dead.
TRIGGER WARNING: spousal loss, car accident, hospitals, death, drunk driver
