We know youâre planning to dress up for the Halloween Town Fair. What will you be and why? - If you decide to wear different costumes for the different days, explain it as well.
I, uh, actually planned on staying at home for Halloween. It just doesn't feel quite right being out and about town this year, plus I've been concentrating on my students and their coursework. Midterms are in the next two weeks before Thanksgiving, after all.
We were all believers once and nothing guarantees us that everything is exactly how we imagine it to be. Please tell us a short story that involved you and ghosts. If you donât have one, imagine one quickly.
Actually, I was always told that the orphanage I grew up in was haunted by children from the old days - around the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. We were told that they're the souls of those who'd never gotten adopted and supposedly died of depression, doing their best to make sure we didn't get adopted so that they could claim us as well. I kid you not. One night, my sister and I were playing on Super Mario Kart on Super Nintendo (I know, old school) when the TV screen flickered, and we swear we saw the ghost of a girl in a nightgown through the reflection... Though nobody was there when we looked behind us.
Letâs see in what you believe. If it wasnât a townâs event where almost everyone goes out to party, would you celebrate Halloween? Why/Why not?
Normally, oui, I'd absolutely love to. Halloween always was an escape of sorts for me, being able to just forget about life in general, even if only for a single night.
Of course, then there's All Saints Day afterward, still celebrated personally despite the move to the United States... Going to mass the day after Halloween is a bit like a spiritual cleanse, I suppose, as well as a more somber reminder of whom we're really celebrating for just the day before. And though I don't have any relatives here I could visit and present flowers to though I sincerely miss seeing my mother's resting place, I do still go to the graveyard and pray for others' beloved during the Day of the Dead.
What are you afraid of? What prompted this fear?
I was given the definition of this phobia back in secondary school, which I still find relevant today... Pistanthrophobia, the fear of trusting and having faith in others due to past experiences. Though it's most commonly connected with people that have suffered messy romantic relationships, mine supposedly stems as deeply as my toddler years. Which, ah, I'm not about to go into detail on.
Here where no one else hears us: Do you believe in the supernatural?
Oh, most certainly - always have since I was sixteen years old. I've just never been sure what is out there. Even now, I've only had glimpses via... Mademoiselle Parks.
Do you enjoy scary movies? If yes, which ones? If not, why not?
I do, oui. I've always had a penchant for horror-thriller; suspenseful moments that leave you at the edge of your seat and stories that make your blood curdle, causing a chill down your spine are vital into giving me a good scare. I'm also one for horror classics despite how cheesy they may be, as they were favorites growing up, always good for late at night when you can't sleep.
