I’m not okay after watching "The Zone of Interest."
This 2023 film is a haunting, soul-shattering experience that redefines Holocaust storytelling. Jonathan Glazer paints a picture of the Höss family’s serene life—kids playing, flowers blooming, dinner on the table—while Auschwitz’s horrors unfold just beyond their fence. The way the film uses sound to hint at the unimaginable (screams, trains, gunshots) is nothing short of devastating. Sandra Hüller and Christian Friedel deliver performances so raw, you almost forget they’re acting. It’s not about showing the violence but making you feel its shadow in every frame. Nominated for multiple Oscars and a Cannes standout, this film is a brutal reminder of humanity’s capacity to normalize evil. Watch it, cry, reflect, repeat. I’m still in pieces.
