People are actually out there thinking that the entire LGBT community is advocating for a gender-neutral Santa and calling babies "theybies"
Straight People will eat up ANYTHING that makes the LGBT community look ridiculous in any way.
someone: I'm using they/them pronouns for my kids until they're old enough to decide otherwise
someone else: omg that's so wrong, you can't FORCE your kids to use certain pronouns
another person: wtf are you saying your kids are nonbinary? you can't just CHOOSE your kid's gender for them that's abusive
me: *looks into the camera like I'm on The Office*
Some parents are trying.
These parents are taking a direct approach to challenging the gender binary: attempting to raise their children without gendered pronouns, clothing, toys or—most importantly—ideas.
So I follow people who use "gender creative parenting" which is basically just using neutral pronouns at first and trying to reduce gendered influence on young kids. Cool and good. Love that.
Anyway in one of the groups a parent is asking how to navigate one of their triplets possibly being trans. All used they/them pronouns from birth but now that they're older it's seems one is trans and the others are closers to cis. People are so confused by this and I don't understand why???
Just because you allow your child to explore gender and try to remove pressure to be a binary gender doesn't mean transness goes away. Disphoria doesn't stop just because you can wear whatever you want or just because you were never taught "pink=girl blue =boy"
Gender expression is not the whole of being transgender. Even at age 4 children are beginning to notice and understand the differences in "male" vs "female" bodies and even if those bodies have never once been gendered for them they may still feel theirs just isn't exactly right.
Thinking that gender neutral means no more transgender kids is basically just admitting that you think playing with Barbies is for girls and trucks is for boys. If they do both clearly they can't be a boy OR a girl and therefore not trans! Doesn't work that way.
