Honestly, sometimes low chaos options are so....meh, I feel about this similarly to how I felt about Lady Boyle's abduction ( part that made me reconsider low chaos clean hands run)
Yeah Lady Boyleâs one was pretty bad, like it was so bad Harvey had to retcon it on Twitter (and in The Corroded Man I think). While I understand the initial thought behind it, take away from Jindosh the one thing he values more than his life and on top of that with his own machine - the ruined by his own creation kind of trope, itâs executed in a very Bad way.Â
Especially since most of the things surrounding Jindosh are very comic relief-like compared to the overall tone of the game. As if the game wants you to be happy for lobotomizing him. I mean from Emilyâs kill animation is kicking him in the privates, the way you shut his mouth close when you lay him on the chair (because you know he âTalks A Lotâ) and then the way he is handled after being lobotomized (especially if you saw the spoilery news paper in the Royal Conservatory stream). It just says âpoint and laugh at the smartass guy who is not so smart now ahahahâ and thats...Bad.Â
I just generally hate the âtechnology is evilâ most video games pull because itâs generally neither good nor evil. Itâs sort of like the Outsiderâs mark, whatever you use it for determines if itâs good or evil. We kind of discussed it in that Tales of Dunwall and Esmond Roseburrows story which was a good approach on how sometimes in the wrong hands, progress can be evil. But not like Sokolov wasnât the prime asshole that weaponized the military and had his technology used for killing a lot of civilians. Sokolov and Jindosh both have that same blood on their hands. There are exceptions of course, but the Clockwork soldiers are no more evil than the city guards. Not to mention Jindosh has created good things too, The Clockwork Mansion and the Silvergraph are both inventions that arenât weapons and they are pretty amazing, however the game looks at the Mansion as some monstrosity, I mean as an architect I would love if something like this could exist.Â
So everything around Jindosh makes you hate him for all the wrong reasons. Instead of focusing on why he is a villain, his lack of care for human life, his sadistic nature and how he experiments on people, the game focuses on all the wrong reasons to hate him (his inventions, his intelligence and that he talks a lot). And I really love Arkane and Harvey but I think they kinda didnât think most of this through.Â
