By late winter I can’t prevent myself by once again becoming enamoured with #Wattle. Each season like it or not I find myself drawing, painting, photographing, filming and generally thinking about Wattle. Last season I began drawing together a number of works I call #TheWattleDiaries Wattle is such a benevolent family of species. They are the party starters, bringing life, light and energy to the landscape. Acting as a pioneer species in ecological terms. Bring nutrients, colour, activity and energy to the country on which it stands. As I drive around #Bundjalung country in the #ByronBay region. In ecology the way to heal a broken ecosystem is to connect it to more of itself. In other word connection heals. When we humans (also part of nature) become broken we need to feel connection. I feel their benevolent energy is what we need to tap into in this time of disruption. • Wattle is a state of landscape, a season. It’s a pioneer species that responds to disturbance, to creation of new forms. It creates an environment in which other species profit. It shines is radiance lightly upon the earth. An alchemist singing a song of sunshine and summer and future growth. Raining down gold and raising running red skyward. Fixing nitrogen and fungi and leaf trash. Growing truffle like snack for marsupials. I’m gifting a series of collages to people most in need, in these troubling times.
