The Waste: Chapter 1
âThis world is corrupt and always will be thatâs why when times got tough tensions ran hot the only thing the worldâs governments could think of was violence. So began the war that changed the world, killed millions and left countries in a state of ruin The End War. Years past and the world tried to heal itself but never got better. People live in constant fear for their lives because of bandits, cutthroats, cultist, and so called higher authorities run what is left of the United States of America. Iâm starting to drag on. You know how the world is; youâre living it. Let me tell you what you came here for.â
The sun beats down on the ruined plains that is the Midwest or what is left of it, the Dust is what they call it. A large pieced together Jeep comes tearing over a sand dune. The Jeep looks worn down the only new thing about this rugged vehicle is the iron doors that help keep the cold in and the deadly air out. On top of the Jeep is a large roof rack, rugged like the rest of it. There sits a man wearing all black, trench coat, pants, boots, and his cowboy hat that has seen a few days. His face is covered with a white gas mask letting no facial details to be seen. The man in black sits next to a body bag he has one leg draped over the bag and is leaned back against the railing of the roof rack. The man sits up and leans over to the right side of the jeep and bangs on the side. The jeep comes to a stop the wind blows and picks up dust.
The man in black kicks the body bag off the roof and he jumps down with it landing beside the body bag. Inside the Jeep two pale looking bandits calmly put on their gas mask. Outside the man in black kneels down next to the body bag and unzips the bag. Inside the bag is a man with a gas mask the man slowly turns to the man in black and a low mumble can be heard coming from him. The man in black reaches down and removes the mask from the bandit. He then draws his revolver from his side and puts it in the banditâs mouth. The bandit begins crying then the man in black holds one finger to his mouth and whispers âShhhhâ as he does so, the man in black fires his revolver. Inside the Jeep the bandits jump at the sound of the revolver. They begin shaking as they hear the man in black get closer to the door. The man in black knocks on the driver door, the door slowly opens as the door opens the man in black waves his gun to signal to the driver that itâs time to get out. The bandit hops out of the vehicle and stares at the man in black. He is shaking. He slowly breathes in, âWe donât want any trouble nowâŚListen just take the Jeep and leave us.â The man in black pushes the bandit to the side and points his revolver at the other bandit in the Jeep. The bandit panics and quickly jumps out of the Jeep. The man in black gets in the Jeep closes the passenger door, he turns and faces the bandit to his left and nods. The bandit slowly musters up the courage âWhatâs your nameâŚYou know so we can tell people never to mess with the man in black.â The man begins to speak âYou can call meâŚâ
âWait wait wait, Iâm getting ahead of myselfâ the scene changes to a smoky old bar. In the corner sits a man casted in shadow and sitting in front of him is a man dressed in a nicely pressed all white suit. âLook, Iâm getting carried on - I should be upfront with ya now, I donât get a lota people asking for my stories. If you got the cash Iâll get down to the meat and potatoes.â The man in white puts a briefcase on the table and slides it towards the man in the shadow. He turns the briefcase towards him and pops it open. âLooks like we in business kid! Now Iâll start the story off right with the first four talesâŚEli Dillingerâ
This world is a disaster and Iâm right in the middle of it. I live in a cesspool and Iâm trying to make the best of it. I was blessed with a good insight - a gift really, a modern Sherlock Holmes. I normally donât brag about myself but with a glass of scotch, fresh packed cigarette, and a journal this is what happens I suppose. Eli stops writing and looks out of his apartment window. Lights fill the night sky. Dark silhouettes of buildings that have been destroyed by bombs line the city skyline. This is the âNewâ New York even though it smells and feels like an old run down New York.  Eli thinks to himself âIf God only knewâ he continues writing in his journal. Iâve been trying to figure out what Iâm doing here obviously Iâm living but it isnât well. Iâm bombarded by nightmares and flashbacks of things I barely remember. I think Iâm slipping. Today Phillip and I were assigned the backstreets because there have been a lot of murders following a pattern, so Captain Hagen thought the dynamic duo as he calls us could figure it out. I felt lost even though catching details is my thing. I think Iâm slipping. Today Phillip and I were assigned the backstreets because there is a serial killer with a certain pattern Captain Hagen thought the dynamic duo could handle it. Phillips getting on in years but he is still a good partner I canât say much Iâm a young buck with a keen eye and a quick left hand. Eli stops writing again and takes a sip of scotch then takes a long drag from his cigarette. His eyes become hazy and his hands start shaking. He drops the cigarette into his scotch and slowly slides out of his chair. He walks over to his bed the bed looks like it came from a cheap motel. He looks over at his nightstand and notices the alarm clock reads 2:30AM. He falls over on his bed and slowly drifts away into slumber.
A loud bang comes from Eliâs door. Eli slowly wakes from unconsciousness and sits up. He rubs his eyes and stands up; another bang comes from his door âEli! Are you in there?â
âYes give me a second to get ready.â
Eli walks into his bathroom and looks in the mirror. Eli stands about six feet even and has a slim figure but still muscular. He has short brown hair, blue eyes and a very handsome face, he as a gentle appeal to him. Eli turns the water on and splashes his face with warm water and then turns the water off. He dries his face with a towel then walks out of the bathroom.
Another bang comes from the door âEli! You are taking too long! You are already late for work I had to come looking for you Captain Hagen is gonna be pissed.â
âIâm getting my clothes on now Phillip just calm down!â
âI canât calm down we got a lot on our plate today plus we still need to investigate the Backstreet Butcher.â
Eli is in his closet picking out a suit he finally chooses a black suit with a navy blue vest and navy blue tie.
âI know we have a lot on our plate Phillip, Iâm going as fast as I can.â Eli begins putting on his suit, then walks over to his door and opens it.
âLook I still need to put socks and shoes on but you can come in and have a cup of coffeeâ.
Phillip is a tall but stout man; he has a very aged look to him, he has short salt and pepper colored hair, and a goatee to match. He is wearing a brown trench coat with a blue suit underneath. Phillip walks in and heads to the kitchen. Eliâs apartment is very small. The kitchen, living room, and bedroom are all in the same area with a bathroom next to Eliâs bed. âHey, Eli this coffee is a little coldâ Phillip is taking a sip from a mug.
Eli is sitting on his bed putting black dress socks on. âYeah, itâs from yesterday I didnât have time to make it this morning because someone had to wake me up.â
Phillip puts down the mug âEli, itâs almost eleven oâclock.â
Eli looks over to his alarm clock âShit, you werenât joking! Did you give Hagen an excuse?â âYeah I told him you had already started working early this morning on the Backstreet Butcher caseâ
Eli is lacing up his dress shoes âThanks a bunch Phillip that means a lot to me.â
âEli we are partners itâs what we do.â Eli stands up and walks over to his nightstand, he reaches behind the nightstand and pushes a small button to open the bottom of the nightstand. Inside the night stand is a large black revolver. Eli grabs the revolver and puts it in his holster. âAlright Iâm ready to go Phillipâ
âItâs about timeâ The two exit the apartment, Eli clothes the door then locks it.
âWhat should we do first Phillip?â
âHonestly I was thinking about heading to the diner a few blocks from here and getting a cup of joe.â
Eli turns to Phillip with a sarcastic look âI thought we had a lot on our plate todayâ
âYeah, the only the thing we really have is keep working on the Backstreet Butcher case. I lied to get you into gearâ
âYou are a jackass Phillip, but I wouldnât have it any other way. Plus some fresh coffee does sound good.â Phillip and Eli begin walking down the hall and towards the elevator. Eli pushes the ground level button and the elevator doors open, Phillip and Eli get into the elevator as the doors begin to shut a man comes busting out of his apartment
âHey hold that open!â Eli pushes the open door button and the elevator doors open. âThank you so much!â
âNo problem. Where are you off to in such a hurry?â Eli looks at the man curiously âUhâŚMy brother in law owns a chop shop and I was suppose to start today but Iâm running late!â
Eli looks over to Phillip and then back to the man âA chop shop uh?â The doors to the elevator close and the elevator starts to descend. Eli laughs a little âListen today Iâll let it slide but man you gotta be careful about what you say to strangersâ. Eli and Phillip both show their detective badges. âLuckily for you we have murders to solve and drug runners to stop.â
The man panics âUhâŚshit! You promise you wonât lock me up? Iâll just work one day and quit, promise!â
Eli and Phillip both start laughing when Phillip speaks up âOh man, donât piss yourself kid.â The elevator arrives on the ground floor and then opens its doors. The young man runs off as soon as the doors are fully open. Eli and Phillip walk out of the elevator still laughing.
âGood morning Eli.â An old woman is sitting behind a brown desk almost taller than her. She has a gentle smile and a pleasant face.
âGood morning Mrs. Crabtree, how are you doing?â
âWell, thank you for asking. Enjoy your day Eli.â
Phillip and Eli walk out of the apartment building and onto the street. There are people walking on both sides of the street, it looks busy and overcrowded. The air is unpleasant and dark, thatâs what happens after years of radiation and the reopening of factories, does to an old city like New York. People have taken to calling this paradise the âNewâ New York, funny really, seeing as the city looks like it did back in the industrial revolution. Phillip takes in a deep breath âAh New York New York New York! I love it and all of its trash. Iâve lived my whole life watching it grow from dust to thriving city.â
Eli turns to Phillip âI wouldnât call it thriving more like trying to survive by clawing through flesh and bone to make it to the top.â
Phillip looks at Eli âYou sure know how to make things look dark Eliâ
âI canât help. This city has eaten a whole in my heart. I really donât know how youâve lived here so longâ
âWell honestly Eli itâs about seventy percent not being able to make it out and thirty percent old strings attached to the cityâ
âIâd be cutting those strings if I were you.â
âItâs not that easy Eli.â
âHonestly Iâve been thinking about quitting and heading westâŚit feels like something is calling me thereâŚlike itâs my home.â
âStill having those nightmares?â Phillip takes a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket and pulls one out. He waves the pack in front of Eli. He takes one out and puts it in his mouth. He takes a silver lighter out of his pocket and lights his cigarette.
âYeah, and they seem to be getting worse.â He takes a drag from the cigarette and hands his lighter to Phillip. He takes the lighter from Eliâs hand and lights his cigarette. âI wish there was something I could do young blood.â He hands Eli his light, the two begin walking down the street. âItâs nothing to worry about. Iâve started writing a journal; I think it might do me some good. I might get some clarity from those dreams if I write about them.â âMan, I hope so!â Phillip and Eli are walking down the street when a woman yells,
âHELP! Iâve been robbedâ
Eli perks up and runs over to the woman with Phillip coming up behind. âWhich way did he goâ The young woman points towards an alley. Eli and Phillip take off towards the alley. They run into the alley and see a hooded man at the end of the alley. âIâd drop whatever you stole before this gets ugly.â Eli shows his badge âIâm an armed detective and Iâm not afraid to use force.â
The man in the hood turns around âI ainât afraid of no damn copper. Plus you guys are the ones surroundedâ
Eli looks around as bandits come out of a large dumpster. Phillip is standing back to back with Eli âE, what are we gonna do?â
âWe fight of courseâ Eli lifts the right side of his suit jacket and pulls his magnum from its holster using his left hand. Phillip draws his revolver and points it at a bandit.
âYou guys donât look armed. We have the upper hand so if I were you Iâd drop the gangster act and give us what we want.â
The hooded bandit walks towards Eli âI got no fear of dyingâ
Eli looks puzzled âYou are that willing to hand over your life?â
âIâve got nothing to live for, running theses streets is all I got. You putting me outta my miseryâŚâ Eli shoots the man in the head before he takes another breath. The other bandits get scared and run away.
Phillip turns towards Eli, grabs him by the shoulder and turns him around. âWhat the FUCK was that Eli?â
âI was granting him his request.â
âJesus Christ Eli!â
âLook we are the law, no one is gonna question this worthless scumâs dead corpse. As far as we know it was a gang shooting. So please drop the concerned act.â Phillip just shakes his head and walks out of the alley way and notices the people walking by like nothing happened, like there never was a gun shot, never bandits. Â He sighs and realizes just how dark this world is and why Eli is so cold.
âEli, you coming?â
 âYeahâ
Eli and Phillip reach the diner and walk in. They are greeted by a mature woman, still clinging to what may have been good looks, and a gentle smile. âHey you guys. Let me guess coffee black for Phillip and coffee, 5 sugars and cream for Mister Eli?â They both nod yes and take off their fedoras. Phillip and Eli sit down at a booth closest to the door. Phillip takes his coat off and sits it beside him in the booth. âI still canât see why you take so much sugar in your coffee.â
Eli laughs some âI canât see how you take it blackâŚdisgustingâ The woman returns with their coffee. âCan I get you two anything else?â Eli looks up âNothing else now Pennyâ
âOk, enjoyâ Penny walks away from the table. Eli takes a sip of his coffee then sets it back down. âSo Phillip what do we do about the Backstreet Butcher?â
âHonestly Iâm not sure E. We gotta figure out his pattern.â
âWell letâs go over the detailsâ
âAll the murders happen during the night we figured that much out and they all happen in the Backstreet block.â Phillip takes a sip of his coffee and pulls out a pack of smokes, pulls two cigarettes out and offers one to Eli. He takes the cigarette from Phillip and lights it. Phillip takes the other cigarette and lights it. Eli closes his eyes, takes a long drag then blows out a large cloud of smoke.
âI should have figured this out already Phil.â
âItâs alright Eli. Letâs see the bodies always are butchered legs, arms, and head removed from the torso. The Butcher cuts the legs and arms into three sections. One at the hands and feet then one at the elbow and knees then of course the cut from the torsoâ
âItâs like he is playing with them. Donât forget the bodies are always hours dead and there never seems to be blood.â
âHe must be cleaning the blood from the sceneâ
âThat would be too much work and someone would have seen himâ
âThen what is he doing?â
âMaybe the Butcherâs title is more accurate than we thoughtâ
âWhat do you mean?â
âHe could be draining the blood from them like they are pigs to the slaughterâ
âJesus! Do you really think so Eli?â
âIt is a strong possibilityâ Eli takes another drag from his cigarette.
Just then a loud commotion comes from outside. Eli and Phillip look out the window and see a man dressed in a nice black suit walking down the street with a posse of bodyguards. Everyone in the streets is going crazy like the man is a super star. The man walks into the diner and everyone in the diner freak out. Penny walks up to the man âGood morning Mr. Giovanni! What brings you to our little dinner?â The man looks over to the booth Eli and Phillip are sitting. âWell honestly I havenât tried anything here and I like to make appearances.â
âWell sit wherever you like Sirâ
âThank you Missâ Giovanni and his posse walk past Eli and Phillip and head towards the table in the back of the diner. Eli shakes his head and speaks low to Phillip âI hate him.â
âWhy? He supports what we so call a law force. We should thank him for funding usâ
âBullshit! He isnât any better than the gangsters that run around our streets.â
Phillip kicks Eli under the table âE! You gotta be careful about what you say when the most powerful man in the city is sitting a few tables away from you.â Eli shakes his head âI really donât care who or what he is. He may act like a saint, but he is playing something. Iâm pretty sure he is the biggest drug pusher in the city too.â Phillip sighs and takes a sip of coffee. One of Giovanniâs bodyguards walks over to Eli and Phillipâs table. âMr. Giovanni would like to speak to you both.â Eli looks up at the bodyguard âAbout what? We are kind of working hereâ âEli!â Phillip shakes his head âWe would be glad to talk to your bossâ The bodyguard nods his head and steps back from the table. Eli and Phillip stand up and get escorted to the table where Giovanni is sitting. Giovanni offers Eli and Phillip a seat âPlease gentlemenâ Eli and Phillip sit down âWhat can we help you withâŚSirâ Eli looks emotionless as he speaks.
âWell I personally wanted to thank you for keeping these streets as clean as possible.â
âWe try sir, but someone powerful keeps getting drugs to the backstreet.â Eli again emotionless as he speaks. Giovanni has a small smile on his face. âI understand thisâ
âIâm sorry if my partner seems a little cold. We are having trouble with the Backstreet Butcher caseâ
âI heard about that case. I feel sorry for all the innocent people that have died from that madman.â
âYeah, sorry for seeming so cold Mr. Giovanniâ
âDonât worry aboutâŚEli is it?â
âYes it is.â
âAnd Phillip I presumeâ
âYes sir.â
Giovanni sits back in his chair. âWell good luck on that Butcher case gentlemenâ Eli and Phillip stand up and take their fedoras off to thank Giovanni then walk off. They return to their booth and sit down.
âI canât stand that asshole.â
âEli really!?â
âWhat? He gets to me.â Penny walks by the table âWell look at the two big shots. Getting to talk to Mr. Giovanni and having him pick up your tabâ Eli looks over to Penny smiles then looks back to Phillip. âYou know Penny Iâm really hungry I havenât had breakfast yet. Could you grab me the deluxe breakfast plate?â âSure honey, anything for you Phillip?â âUh sure just an egg sandwich with hot sauce please.â âAlright coming right upâ Penny walks away.
âEli what the hell?â
âWhat we are eating on Giovanniâs dime not mine.â
âDoesnât mean you should go all outâ
âI havenât had anything to eat today and itâs almost lunch timeâ
âYeah but you are just being an ass!â
âHow long have you known me? Iâm good at a few things and being an ass is one of themâ
âI swear Eli. He could easily have us benched then we wouldnât be working at allâ
âIâd like to see him try. I donât care how many men he has, remember other one of those things Iâm good at is my skill with a revolver.â
âGoddamn it Eli could you just once act mature and not like some teenager trying to when a pissing contest.â Penny returns to the table and places Eli and Phillipâs food in front of them. âEnjoy you twoâ She walks off. Eli looks down at his food. âI might have been trying to win a pissing contest but honestly Iâm starving. I havenât had food since noon yesterday.â Phillip looks at Eli with a shocked expression âWhy didnât you eat any dinnerâ âIâm not sure I donât remember most of yesterday. Something weird is happening to me. Iâm having crazy dreams, not eating, blurry vision, and poor concentration.â Eli beings eating as does Phillip âLook Eli Iâm sorry if Iâm coming off strong.â âItâs alright Phillip I needed that fussing. After we eat lets head out we are already behind schedule.â Eli and Phillip continue eating until they both finish. Eli and Phillip stand up and get ready to go âHang on Phillip Iâm going to go apologize to Giovanni.â Phillip looks shocked at hearing this âWow, Eli very mature of you.â Eli walks over to Giovanniâs table. Giovanni is eating steak and eggs when he looks up to see Eli. âWell can I help you Eli?â âI just wanted to come back to say Iâm sorry for acting like a fool earlier. I havenât been sleeping well and Iâm in a bad mood. Iâve got a killer to catch and I canât get any big leads.â Giovanni puts his silverware down and holds his right hand out. âAll is forgiven Eliâ Eli shakes his hand when Giovanni push Eli in closer and whispers in his ear âI know you are having trouble with this case but take it out on me again Iâll slit your throat in front of everyoneâ Eli tightens his grip on Giovanniâs hand and whispers âTry it now if you want. I have my hand on my revolver already.â Giovanni pulls back and smiles âThank you for serving this fine city Eli.â Giovanni lets go of Eliâs hand. Eli turns around and walks towards Phillip âLetâs go Phillipâ as they walk out of the diner Giovanni speaks up âGood luck boysâ
Eli and Phillip begin walking down the street âThat asshole threatened me by the way.â âWell you did give him every reason to.â Eli stops and turns to Phillip âReally you are gonna take his side!? What happened to us being partners?â âLook Iâm just saying if I was that powerful and some young buck came up to me being rude after I invited him to my table and paying for his bill Iâd be pissed.â Eli shakes his head and they continue walking down the street âWhatever Phil, we need to get down to the coronerâs office and examine the bodies again.â
âAre you sure? We have all the evidence on the bodies we could find.â
âI have a hunch, itâs a small one but I think our killer might be a doctor or really a butcher who knows. Thatâs why I wanna take another look at the bodies.â
Phillip looks surprised at hearing this information. âWhat makes you think that?â
âTalking about the way the killer has been butchering the bodies itâs very clean and preciseâ
âEli what if it was a butcher they are normally good with meatâ
âYes, but weâve posted on all the butchers in the whole city and never turned up anything. We even had a death while watching all the butchersâ
âTrue, it could be someone who grew up around a butcher.â Phillip looks down at his watch âDamn we havenât done shit today.â Just then his watch goes off. The watch is large and appears to be a communication device as well.
âShit itâs the Captainâ
âWell answer it.â
Phillip answers the call by pushing a button on the right side of the watch. âCaptain this is Phillip.â âWhy the hell didnât Eli answer his damn echo!?â The Captain yells through the echo. Eli looks down at his left hand and notices his echo isnât on his arm. âShitâ Phillip looks over at Eli
 âWhat?â
âI fucking forgot it back at my apartmentâ
âHe forgot! You two are my dynamic duo catching killers and shutting down drug runners but Eli is fucking up. I got a call from Giovanni saying Eli was being extremely rude and even threated him.â
âThatâs bullshit Captain! That asshole threated me first.âÂ
âI really donât care Eli! Go grab your Echo then get to my office!â
âYes sirâ Eli and Phillip both respond to the Captain. Eli sighs and shakes his head âFuck, see thatâs what happens when you rush me Phillip.â Phillip laughs some âRight itâs my fault. Letâs just get back to you apartment and head to the Captainâs office.â
âYou go on without me Phillip. Iâll catch back up plus I can get their faster if I run and you arenât what I would call in shapeâ Phillip nods his head âAlright Iâll head over to the precinct.â Phillip continues walking north towards the precinct.
Eli turns around and starts walking down the street. He passes the diner and peaks in the window and sees Giovanni and his men leaving. He thinks to himself âThat asshole calling the Captain on me. I should follow him and see if he is doing anything suspiciousâ Eli ducks behind a large dumpster beside the diner. Giovanniâs bodyguards walk out of the diner with Giovanni behind them. Once on the street two of the bodyguards step behind Giovanni while the other two stand in front of him. Giovanni taps on the right bodyguard and they begin walking down the street away from Eli. Eli moves from behind the dumpster and follows Giovanni at a safe distance. Giovanni stops at a small street vendor, Eli quickly ducks into an alleyway. Giovanni and his men begin walking again this time Eli lets them get a large distance between them before returning to the main street. Eli stops by the street vendor and flashes his badge âThat man what did he want?â âLook I aint one to snitch but he just asked for an apple and paid double for it.â âIs that really allâ âYeah but he didnât pay in coin he paid with this.â The street vendor pulls out an inhaler âPlease donât arrest me I really need it.â Eli grabs the inhaler from vendorâs hands âReally he paid you with a full shot of Turbo?â âHey Iâve got a habit and Giovanni is a man that helps people in need.â
âYou do realize Turbo is an illegal drug.â Eli puts the inhaler in his pocket. âSo says the dirty detective that follows some twisted vision of justice. Turbo is only illegal if you follow the laws you and your taskforce created. The mayor doesnât rule the Backstreets the people do.â Eli laughs some âAnd look how good thatâs doing you. The upper side of New York is thriving well thanks to people like me.â The vendor looks left down the road âYou better stop talking to me before Giovanni gets outta sight.â Eli looks down the street and barely spots Giovanni and his posse. Eli grabs the inhaler from his pocket and tosses it back at the street vendor âThanks for the heads up.â Eli takes off down the street still at a safe distance. Giovanni and his bodyguards stop at an alleyway and walk down it. Eli thinks to himself âThat alley leads to Silver Street. Thatâs where the red light district is. Why would he be going there? And why is he even still in the Backstreets he lives in the Upper Westside.â Eli continues following Giovanni down the alleyway. The back two bodyguards stop and look behind them Eli quickly dodges their sight by hiding behind a few trashcans. He whispers to himself âShit, that was close.â Giovanni continues walking down the alleyway until finally comes out to Silver Street. Giovanni and his man take a right and begin walking, Eli follows quietly after him. Eli reaches the end of the alleyway and peaks past the corner of the building he is hiding behind and sees Giovanni walking into a club named âThe White Hareâ. Eli steps back into the alleyway and thinks to himself âShould I chase a wild lead or go home?â Eli reaches in his jacket and pulls out a small silver cigarette case. He opens the case and takes a cigarette out and puts the case back. Eli puts the cigarette in his mouth then takes out his lighter and lights his cigarette. He takes a long drag before straightening his suit out. Eli walks out of the alleyway and onto Silver Street. He continues walking down the street towards âThe White Hareâ. Eli walks up to the clubâs doors standing in front of the door is a large man with dark skin almost burnt, no hair, a face only a mother could love, and a black freshly pressed suit. Eli walks up to the man âSo, you gonna let me in or just stare?â
The man perks up âExcuse me?â His low earth moving voice echoes of the mid-day sky. Eliâs look is still solid and unfazed âYou heard me, I didnât stutterâ
âLook punk I donât know who you think you are, but you arenât shit to me!â
Eli opens his jacket and reviles his badge and revolver. âI think this is good enough for youâ
âIt would be if I cared about the so called law enforcement in this city. You are on Silver Street we run this side of town with our own rulesâ The bouncer pops his knuckles then stretches his neck. âI dare you to try somethingâ Eli takes another long drag from his cigarette. âLooks like intimidation isnât gonna work on you. Look Iâm following a lead and the man I need to talk to is in there.â
âOh is that so? Then by all means go aheadâŚUmâ The bouncer focuses on the name on Eliâs badge âMr. Dillingerâ Eli starts walking towards the door âThat was a lie Mr. Dillinger the only man in the club at this time is Mr. Giovanni and he wouldnât want company.â The bouncer close lines Eli sending him on to his feet. The bouncer takes a step back and holds his arm as if he was the one that just got hit. âWhat are you made up of?â
Eli slowly stands up and wipes his suit off. âAsshole this was one of my nicer suitsâ Eli walks over to the bouncer and punches him in the face. The bouncer falls down to the ground spitting up blood as he itâs the sidewalk. Eli spits a little bit of blood âLook I was only repaying the hit. This isnât over Iâll be back laterâ Eli walks off towards the alleyway he came out of.
Eli walks down the alleyway still wiping off his suit âDamn this sucks Iâm gonna need to get this one cleaned now.â He pulls out his wallet and checks inside there is no money just receipts. âThatâs what I thought.â Eli finally makes it back to Main Street and takes a left and continues walking down the sidewalk. A few minutes pass by as he walks down the street thinking to himself âWhy was Giovanni at The White Hare? Iâll have to go back tonight and case the joint.â Eli finally reaches his apartment building. He walks up the stairs and enters the building Mrs. Crabtree stops Eli âHey Eli, a courier just brought this package for you.â Eli with a confused look on his face walks over to Mrs. Crabtree âA package for me?â
âYes the nice courier said please deliver to Eli Dillingerâ
âUmâŚStrange maybe itâs something from the precinctâ Eli takes the package from Mrs. Crabtree. The box is just a bigger than a head and on the top is a stamp from the Mile Side Courier Company. Eli walks over to the elevator and pushes the up button. The elevator finally comes down after a few seconds and opens its doors. Eli steps into the elevator and pushes the tenth floor button. The elevator arrives on the tenth floor after a few minutes and Eli steps out. He walks to the end of the hall where he resides. He opens the door to his apartment and notices something doesnât feel right. He walks in, closes the door behind him, and walks over to his bed. On the bed is a white envelope with the letter E on the front. Eli puts the box beside the envelope he turns to his nightstand and grabs his Echo Device then puts it on. He turns to face the box and envelope. He picks up the envelope and slowly opens it, inside there is a small index card. Eli pulls the index card out written on the card in crude hand writing âDear Mr. Dillinger I know your deepest dark secrets.â Eli takes a deep breath and sets the index card on his nightstand. Eli looks over to the box with fear in his eyes. He slowly opens the box; a small index card is on top of white box. Eli removes the index card from the smaller white box he turns it over and in the same crude hand writing âFrom Oliver Graves enjoy.â Eli looks shocked as his reads the card. Eliâs head begins to pound, his palms get sweaty and his vision begins to get blurry. Eli finally starts to open the smaller white box. As he opens the box a small odor fills the room. Inside the box is a hand with a diamond ring on the index finger. Eli starts to sway from the odor that fills the room. He places the box on his bed; he slowly walks over to his desk and pulls the chair out. He sits down and looks down at his Echo. He flips through the contacts until he reaches Phillip Weston he pushes the call button as he slowly fads away into unconsciousness. Â
About Time!
Finally I finished my first chapter to my book The Waste. I'll probably post it on here so people can read it. I would like to release it a chapter at a time but if i get another writers block like I did it would take a while for a new chapter but I think I can challenge myself to make the chapters good and not sloppy but get them out fast
