Here is my attempt to make sense of what “Dragonborn” means in this series
There are 2 types of dragonborns: those who have the soul of a dragon (LDB, Miraak, etc.) and therefore the disposition of one and the ability to easily learn shouts, and those that have been blessed with the blood of Akatosh (Alessia, Septims, etc.) who are just normal mortals with Akatosh’s blessing. Both deal with the call for power and control, but much much less so for the dragon-blooded dragonborns. Tiber Septim was both (born dragon souled, later earned the blessing of Akatosh by becoming emperor I would think? I’m not deep on Imperial lore)
Dragonborn (Skyrim) - dragon souled, basically a dragon shoved in a human body, randomly born with it, not heritable
Dragonborn (Emperors) - dragon blooded, a symbolic phrase designating being blessed by Akatosh, passed down through the Imperial bloodline or through the amulet of kings, heritable or chosen (by blood or ordained)
