Happy Saturday everyone. Just thought that I’d share one of my favorite frames from “The Tain,” an over 20 minute music video put out by the Decemberists that retails the story of the Táin Bó Cúailnge, a famous Irish mythological epic about a cattle raid. That may not sound riveting, but this story is wild and the Decemberists do a great job at conveying the story in five different folk rock cantos while the video tells the story in black crepe paper. It’s a wonderful experience of both sight and sound (as I listened to it today on the new sound system and it rocked) so I would highly recommend giving it a listen if you’re a medieval Irish literature buff, or more likely if you like folk rock or just the spectacle of a good music video because, let me tell you, there’s some wild images in there that I didn’t want to spoil. I even sampled the music here so that you can see if you’d like it, but be warned that the entire video is not like the sample. It’s just a pretty epic part of the song in my opinion.
