❝ I hate this place. It will never feel home, not like you do. ❞ (For Nikola :p)
His gaze had been directed away, focused on re-stringing his yarting, when he heard the sound of his new husband entered the room with a sigh on his lips. Brow furrowed, Nikola looked up expectantly, listening as Occtis vented.
"Don't let any of your family overhear that, my dear," he laughed softly, though without much mirth, setting down his instrument. Obrimus Manor certainly was no great home for either of them; it likely brought up bad memories for Occtis, and Nikola himself could hardly ever get used to the darkness of it all after the warm, open halls of Palazzo Davinos and the radiant beauty of the Golden Orchard. Of course, the sideways glares of the other Tachonis relatives only made the experience less pleasant. They hadn't yet converted their newest member by marriage to their cause, and that infuriated them.
How could they not have foreseen that Nikola and Occtis would grow close, that the outsider would revile them for how they treated the man they had him marry?
"Perhaps I can talk to my father and Lady Aranessa... have them call upon me for the remainder of our time in the city. After all, it'd be only proper if you went with me, then." His voice was hushed, somewhat mischievously, as if he was truly please with the plan he'd cooked up. "It'd at least get us out of these musty halls. Besides, I have the keys to the wine cellar and the Lady's private collection of books on Faerie."
