Since the last post talked a bit about the general biotech level in The Swarm, I thought I'd give a brief overview of where the other two are at before I do a deep dive on the factions.
With the system I'm working with Cybernetics represent the melding of organic and inorganic to achieve a desired end while Robotics seeks to offload it all onto the inorganic in the same way Biotech does for the organic.
Now, to a degree, all of these are common in the setting everywhere. No matter where you go you'll find automation in manufacturing and even basic consumer level robots. You'll find low power cybernetic limb replacements for those grossed out by cloned ones and simple communication jacks. If these things aren't around, well, you've wandered into quite the weird place.
The things that make the factions different is how far they're trying to take the basic technologies, and for what purposes.
Not just everyone is so thoroughly integrating cybernetic Exo-Frames into their society that even civilians are eating and sleeping in them. Not every station has robots doing all the menial and even complex labour or are looking to create fully digital intelligence. Not every group is trying to biohack their own monstrous attack dogs or take full control of their own genome.
Most people on most stations are just... folks, living their life.
But the future belongs to the changeable.
