Oh man, I haven’t heard of omgtsn in YEARS. Glad to know he’s still alive. And YEAH it’s like... this one song we thought we knew, ended up having brand new identity and history. Except her wings are summoned explicitly from her gem, and not derived from water - thus, two "weapons"
Eh, I still consider it the same thing. She still has to control the water that makes up her wings to be able to fly.Â
About your fusion eye theory - what about Lapis? Her weapon is hydrokinesis, but her gem summon is her wings - eg two weapons, even if one isn't a weapon per se. Shouldn't she have an iris/pupil combo too?
Like you said, Lapis's ability to control water is her weapon. Her water wings are not an entirely different weapon, but just another form of that weapon. Gems can shapeshift and manipulate their weapon just as they can to themselves. Examples would be Garnet increasing the size of her gauntlets, and Pearl/Amethyst summoning multiple of the same weapon.
