Preparing for ‘There is a Place’ this weekend at Pontio
The finishing touches are being put to this weekend’s performance of ‘Mae Yna Le/There is a Place’, a brand new piece by contemporary circus company NoFit State in collaboration with Pontio’s BLAS project on Saturday evening, 12 March and Sunday afternoon, 13 March.
Under the direction of Firenza Guidi, 11 performers from the internationally-acclaimed Bianco company from NoFit State Circus present a new show weaving 61 children and teenagers in and out of their tapestry of sound and physical performance to create magical, dynamic and surprising, or breath-taking, moments.
Schools taking part in the programme include Ysgol Friars, Glanadda, Glancegin, Hirael and Canolfan Addysg Y Bont, Llangefni. Ed Wright from Electroacoustic Wales has worked with the schools to create soundscapes which will be included in the show.
Director Firenza Guidi said, “The show takes its starting point from idea that there is a place, square-ish and ordinary like any other place, but inside it everything is possible. But what happens when your dream is the world in which you feel most at home? When it seems more vivid and real than reality itself, firing up your courage and imagination to let the dreams and nightmares of this invisible city come true?”
This will be one of Pontio’s first large-scale shows in Theatr Bryn Terfel and will make full use of the flexible theatre space, with the performance taking place in the round and using the specialist rigging points which are an unique feature of the building.
Firenza Guidi added, “The spectacle of circus, the magic of theatre and the exciting sound of a live band will team up to present a performance you’ll never forget. Come in, walk through the centre of this invisible city to take your seat, and watch the dreams behind the dreamers.”
The participation element of this production has been generously supported by the Watkin Jones Group. With support from National Lottery, funded through Arts Council of Wales which is sponsored by Welsh Government.
