The concept of ‘time’ always had been important to Anubis. But not in the way mortals thought of it, however. The passing of time or the changing of years usually went by unnoticed for the god. For time was endless. He had the privilege that there was this infinite amount of it available to him plus the knowledge that life would never end. Life would merely change into something else. It did not end in the absolute way mortals thought it did, it only changed.
It wasn’t that long ago a new year had presented itself and it promised to be anything unlike before. Ever since Baekhyun had become a part of his daily life, Anubis’ view on ‘time’ itself had changed. It certainly wasn’t the first time he got confronted with the limitations time put on mortals, but it was the first time he actually truly felt those limitations.
Anubis both saw as felt what time was doing to Baekhyun and for the first time in his existence he feared the passing of time. The heavy weight of time was clearly visible in Baekhyun’s tired eyes after a long day. Or in the lines of his concentrated face when he diligently was finishing up an assignment before the deadline of the university. The weight was also there when Baekhyun talked about how he wanted to get to know him. About how he wanted to spend time with him.
Time always pressured (or motivated) mortals to do certain things (both good and bad) and for the first time Anubis felt the same kind of pressure (or motivation) weighing down on his chest when it came down to Baekhyun. He also wanted to spend time with his son. To teach him about Egyptian Mythology and show what was important to Anubis. So when the other day Baekhyun had brought up again that he wanted to see the Duat Anubis, pressured by time, would have instantly opened a portal to show his son what he wanted to see. Yet the demigod had been in need of sleep and therefore Anubis had told him they would go the next morning. Both of them soon agreed on an hour and Anubis had smiled at the eagerness his son had shown.
Ringing Baekhyun’s doorbell at the agreed time, he waited for the boy to open the door so they could embark on the adventure he was certain it would be for Baekhyun.
