things were good. that was what finley kept telling herself over and over. things were good so lately and she had no reason for feeling the awful ache in her chest. there wasn't a text from one of her parents or an anniversary of an event you didn't celebrate or even the loneliness she'd felt in the aftermath of her breakup. she'd gone on a date with callie, something she had thought she'd never get to have again. no seeds were planted then, there were no moments that made her second guess trying again with her, nothing that made her doubt herself. it was perfect.
hell, it was more than that. it was the first opportunity she'd gotten to just have fun with callie since well before she'd ended things. they'd played games until they ran out of money on the arcade card and then had eaten greasy food and talked for hours. finn hadn't wanted it to end and of course, she'd wanted to kiss her, but she knew it was important for them to be friends again too. they didn't have to rush the intimacy, not yet.
so things were good. work was fine. her friends were fine. she'd gone out to after work drinks with slater and her annoying rich friends that she also kind of loved just the night before.
the realisation that she'd somehow skipped her meds for a few days hit in conjunction with her getting home from the office early, effectively sent home early by slater for being in such a foul mood. she'd napped, contemplated taking them late as if it would help, eaten half a bag of cool ranch doritos and eventually found herself propped up in her bed, close to tears as texts from callie came through.
the old finley would have probably ignored her till she felt better, terrified to burden her with her problems. this version of her typed with shaking fingers, before she could delete the words or regret it. can i call? the response had been so quick from callie's end and she'd pressed the button for facetime without thinking, immediately horrified at the sight of her splotchy face, clean of makeup and clearly upset. "hey." she tried to smile as she answered, but it didn't reach her eyes and all too quickly the tears were forming. "um, could you come over?"
