Jack Skellington! The Pumpkin King 🎃 Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas holds a very special place in my heart. I loved it as a 90s kid, falling completely in love by the world created by Tim Burton, Henry Selick and the amazing team of artists at Disney, it had a very big impact in my life. When it returned with a vengeance during my teen years I couldn't be happier to see so much stuff for this movie that seemed would just be a cult hit. It's my favorite musical and its world is so well built I can imagine myself walking through its dark streets and crooked houses. Throw in Danny Elfman who sings in one of my favorite band "Oingo Boingo" and you get a perfect mix. I'm currently reading its book sequel "Long Live The Pumpkin Queen" and I'm loving it 🖤 And with this we close this Spooktober series. I'm not a huge fan of slasher flicks. Not particularly my scene. 😉 In the spirit of the season I decided to watch the original "Halloween." Give it the ol' "twenty credits shy from graduating" college try. I got bored. Also frustrated. I know this film is the standard for all horror and slasher films after it. I intellectually know this. I found myself wanting Myers to kill her. She threw away the knife, what was is it, three times? Maybe I'm tainted by years of movie watching and if I had seen this originally in '78 my mind would have been blown. The same thing happened to me when I watched "The Exorcist." Years ago there was an anniversary showing in a local theatre. My friend was practically wrenching my arm off my body while I just scoffed and thought about my recipe for pea soup. Give me Fritz Lang's "M." Now that is a scary movie. Possibly the scariest movie I've ever seen. No gore. Pure suspense and the horror of the debths of human depravity.
