The fact that it’s been a few years since that incident means nothing to him. In all honesty, he’s sort of always wanted to introduce Garnet to Riley. Even so, he kinda needs to curb his enthusiasm about it, possibly.
Now that I made a Riley, I’m gonna start expanding upon a headcanoned relationship that I’ve had between my muses for a while. This is gonna become an occasional thing, and I made sure to state it in my rules.
Anyways, here’s the first entry in this set of interactions! Hope you enjoy!
This whole meditation thing was... still new for Nate. Yes, he had already been two weeks on the island, but he was never used to sitting still and doing... nothing. Yet... next to him was an “Aura Guardian” -- a man named Riley who Nate read about through reading various Interpol files on the Galactic Incident. Nate had only recently learned about Aura Guardians on his travels as he worked to bond more with Lucario after achieving Mega Evolution, with the hopes of getting stronger together. They were strong, heroic, and inspiring, something that Nate could admire as it was how he saw... or used to see Interpol. Meeting an Aura Guardain in person was... rather astounding, as he assumed they were an extinct order..
So, instead of meditating, the agent’s mind wandered, thinking back to how it all started. Nate wouldn’t have been there if he wasn’t investigating a poaching ring that he had just recently cornered to the Island. Turns out, Riley was sort of... a protector of this Island, dedicating himself to protecting the pokemon and the ruins in the center of the Island. The two of them teamed up in order to stop and arrest them, and somehow in the midst of that event, he had manged to do something he did not expect he’d ever do.
He created an Aura Barrier.
He, of all people. He honestly believed he had no aura powers because... why would he? Yea... looking back, it was kinda odd that he had these super strong “hunches,” which apparently something Aura users can have, but... him? Just looking back on it he was still sort of in disbelief. Why was he able to use Aura? Could his parents use it? Did Lucario know about it? Well... of course he did. If Lucario didn’t approach Riley and his Lucario about, he wouldn’t be her-
“Is there something on your mind?” The calm voice of the Guardian and now mentor interrupted Nate’s train of thought, forcing him to look to his new mentor. “You seem to be drifting in thought, and it’s reflecting in your aura.”
He should have known that Riley would pick up on this... the man seemed to have a talent in picking up emotions, even the more complex ones. “Sorry,” Nate replied, “I just... it’s sort of a boring thing, ya know? Sitting and like this and not doing anything. Like, I know I’m supposed to feel the aura around me, but I’m just not feeling anythin...” Nate knew about how meditation worked... or at least what he was able to learn on the internet and through a few training books, as all of it was to help Lucario become stronger in Aura. However, it seemed that this information was still not enough for the budding Aura user.
Riley chuckled; he hadn’t known Nate for long, but from what he learned over the past couple of weeks, the young man had a rather busy and outward focused life, balancing two rather time consuming jobs. The exercise of meditation started with introspection, looking withing yourself, something he figured Nate hadn’t had time to do at all.
“It seems that I have not conveyed clearly enough about how Aura users hone their skills.” His voice was still calm as ever, with gentle undertones throughout, with a dash of matter-of-fact-ness. He had helped others learn about their aura abilities before, but understandably he knew that he still had much to learn in the ways of teaching. “You see, Nate, one cannot harness the aura around them until they are able to harness their own. Aura sensitive people may be gifted in the ability to be in tune with their own Aura, but if they do not practice it, then that gift only goes to waste.”
Nate looked towards Riley, his mind still churning as he took in that information. However, just before Nate could really start analyzing, Riley interrupted his mind again:
“Do you understand what I am saying?”
Nate took a pause for the first time in a while; he was even over-thinking this, something ingrained since he started Interpol, if not somewhat before. Riley was the expert, Nate was the apprentice, and Nate knew deep down he was interested in learning. So... he looked inside himself for a moment, only to find a quick and resounding answer:
“Yes.”
“Good,” Riley smiled, closing his eyes once again as he turned back into his meditative position. “Now, let’s try this again, focusing on yourself first. Make sure to clear your mind, as otherwise it will only wander.”
Nate closed his eyes in suit, taking a deep breath as he released himself from thought, and began to focus inwards...
