Ā We all have our own opinions. Here's mine. I respect everyone's point of views, and I understand why some people may disagree with me. But these are just my personal views of the situation.
So Iāve been asked a few times lately why I think itās wrong to eat meat when itās natural for humans to kill animals. Well..
Just because itās ānaturalā doesnāt mean itās okay. Just because itās been that way for years doesnāt mean itās okay. You could be raised by Nazis and still one day think that what you were doing was wrong. People kept slaves, that was ānatural.ā That was done for years. Doesnāt mean it was okay. And one day it finally ended (for the most part).
You could argue that we need to kill animals to control population, but honestly, population will control itself. If we all stopped killing animals right now then there would be too many, right? And most of them would die because thereās not enough space? Well there, thatās population controlling itself. You could say that if there going to die anyway then we might as well be the ones killing them for food. But think of year two of humans not killing animals. Think of year three. Yeah, at first the animals wouldnāt survive anyway. But once we stopped killing, only as many animals as could survive would survive. If one billion cows survive year one, then guess what? Year two, one billion cows will survive too. They canāt over populate because we still have control. If they canāt live then they wonāt. But the ones that do live will live naturally. In Japan the government convinces them that dolphins eat too many fish and need to be killed. Do you think maybe weāre just over fishing? Also, most animals exist in large numbers because we breed them in large numbers. Itās not ānaturalā for so many animals to exist the way they do. The number of chickens that could stay alive lived. They werenāt force bred and then forced to stay alive while being tortured just so they could be killed.
Some people can look at meat and think only about how good it tastes. I canāt. Every time I see chicken on a plate I also see a suffering chicken in a coop. Every time I see a steak I also see a cow being hung upside down and cut open while it screams. Every time I see a pair of Uggs I also see a sheep in metal restraints being skinned without pain relievers. Every time I see a puppy store I also see puppy mills. I see humans not caring. I see people caring more about how great meat tastes or how comfy or nice looking Uggs are (Iām guilty of owning a pair myself, but I didnāt care much for animals when I got them. I really cared more about how nice they looked than the life they took away. And I feel terrible about it, but I decided that I might as well wear them out until theyāre unwearable, that way Iām not wasting). And honestly, I canāt see all of those things and know that Iām not doing a single thing to stop it. I canāt know that Iām that selfish.
It just doesnāt make sense - how we hurt them. Itās not like fish came breaking into our houses to rob us. Weāre the ones that went into their home. If they do hurt us, itās not their fault. Weāre basically breaking into their houses and robbing them and kidnapping their family members and torturing them. I donāt think our pleasures, like eating a steak, should go above their entire lives. I just donāt.Ā
I understand howĀ delicious meat is, I probably seemed like a carnivore at one point. But thatās really not an excuse. Thatās basically saying āI like the taste of meat so I donāt mind if they torture animals, I enjoy the taste.ā And some people will say that and have no problem with it. And I canāt change that. Just like I think itās wrong to eat meat, they might think itās wrong not to eat meat. It's all personal perspective. But factories never stop, they just keep going. Killing just keeps going. You can't see it all clearly, it's too fast. The perspective is too blurry.Ā
I donāt like that itās become breeding animals just to kill them. Itās become literally torturing animals while why scream and cry for help as we chop them open in factories and have the procedure run all day long, at a 9-5 pace. Itās become using animals that have emotions and can feel pain as a form of money. Itās become a business.Ā Ā
I just donāt see animals as food anymore (stole that from Mr. Horowitz. But after he said it I realized it's true). I know Iāve only beenĀ vegetarian for a few months now, but even in that short amount of time, I came to the realization that itās not food. Ā
