where better an architect to start then the man who arguably wrote “the book” on the subject.Marcus Vitruvius Pollio was a roman architect who lived up until 15 BC according to our sources. Most famous for his book De Architectura based on his own teachings of the subject of architecture. Many of the features of classical architecture come exclusively from Vitruvius himself, including the important ideas of the Vitruvian triad. These are soundness (durability), utility and beauty. These three elements are heavily considered in new building creation from the ancient classical buildings of Rome and Greece to the British Isles in the modern era. Like a number of his fellow ancient architects falling in the roman Empire he carried experience in military architecture from his time in service. Also famed for his theories of beauty relating to Architecture, notably taking the symmetry of the human body as the perfect form to base his buildings from. see below an image of Vitruvius and an example of the symmetrical beauty within the human body.
