two for my head usually, one between my legs, i'm a side sleeper so i need one on the side so i can hug it while i sleep, and i tend to switch sides a lot so i need one on both sides, also when i was little i used to surround myself in pillows on all sides because i was paranoid about falling off the side of my bed so it's kind of just become a habit...
