looking back the series and light games established a few inconsistent details about gem culture. pearl owning seems random and arbitrary, shattering was very common despite rejuvenators existing as well as shattered gems being able to be restored, there were many light prisms but seems to now be limited to just 3 owned by a few legendary garnets who were apparently not good enough for pearls, the resource crisis which affected peridots and I guess some garnets(I didn't like that addition)
Well I wouldn't say gems being restored was a thing. I believe they shattered gems once rejuvenation failed multiple times such as rhodonites components always managing to fall in love again.
Ya it's really weird how it was stated that there are a lot of pearls on homeworld but gems such as the garnets who are implied to be right under the diamonds have no ownership of any pearl. Well, it was only confirmed Hessonite doesn't have a pearl however, I like to think she did have one or she was a new garnet but lost the privilege to own one since she lost one of the three light prisms 0_0.
I theorized back then that the resource crisis impacted tall gems the most since they became smaller than their required height. But its hard to believe the diamonds kept an off colored Garnet and even trusted her with a light prism.
