Keeping balance in the food chain β Marine biologists call sharks βtop predatorsβ and consider them defenders of the balance of the marine ecosystem. As top predators, sharks control the abundance of their prey because when hunting they tend to select fish which are older or sick. By doing this, they keep fish stocks healthy. π₯³ This is the reason why removing sharks can trigger a chain reaction that can potentially threaten the whole reef ecosystem. β What can we do?
