Pandan honeycake and original honeycake; aud10 for two slices from The Honeycake, State Buildings, Perth CBD. First came across Honeycake at the Taste of Perth festival many years ago and have been in love with their decadent honey, caramel and walnut layers ever since. They have recently launched a new flavour - PANDAN - and I just had to get the two flavours for a comparison side-by-side. The pandan flavour came sprinkled with dessicated coconut and I quite enjoyed it - it wasn’t as sweet as the original flavour and the pandan flavour was subtle. Personally would have liked a stronger pandan smell though. Now where can I find my own pandan plant in Perth to plant at home..? 🤔🌱 Wiki trivia: ”The characteristic aroma of pandan is caused by the aroma compound 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline, which may give white bread, jasmine rice and basmati rice (as well as bread flowers Vallaris glabra) their typical smell. The plant is rare in the wild but is widely cultivated. It is an upright, green plant with fan-shaped sprays of long, narrow, blade-like leaves and woody aerial roots.
